This weekend kids all over Stockholm, my town, got sick drinking this shit. The vodka was sold in a proper brand bottle, but was spiked with Isopropanol, or isopropyl alcohol, which is used as a cleaning solvent. Four are in intensive care. Parents are being told by authorities to talk to their kids about the risks involved. I had a chat with my daughter yesterday, she's 18 and thankfully not that interested in alcohol, but you never know, right?
These people are killers, unscrupulous, money hungry killers. Bootlegging is the real scourge that will prevent home distilling from being legalized in Sweden and many other countries. Although nothing of this is caused by home distilling, it gives moonshine (or whatever you prefer to call it) a bad reputation, and ultimately the blame.
Here's an article about what happened in English.

I wrote the below on a thread about Methanol some months back. This was not methanol but the effect is the same. It makes me really really angry!

Methanol is very similar to Ethanol in taste and smell, a normal person will not be able to tell the two apart. Most times, even the adulterer isn't not aware themselves that they have concocted a poison that may kill. Methanol that are used to adulterate alcoholic beverages comes 10 times out of 10 from dry distillation of wood.
