Containers and storage space

Post by PalCabral »

Hiya.

I've just done my second stripping run for the day. Started at 6am this morning, had a break mid-day for real life matters, and then on the horse again for a second swing. I have three 25L/6g glass damejeannes and eight 10L/2.5g ditto that I use for keeping low wines until spirit run day. Usually I will have 3-4 empty and available at all times but lately it's been piling up. I am starting up more projects than I can finish it seems. The larger glass containers are great for size but heavy like crazy. I rarely fill them to the brim because I can hardly carry them. However, that's not a luxury I could afford today - after my last stripping run all the small damejeannes were filled so I had to top up one of the half full bigger ones. My back is broken from carrying that huge mother.

Next time I distill I will have to use my old corny keg from the brewing days, but it needs a big clean first. What are you guys using to store your low wines? I often keep up to 40L/9g of low wines/feints before I do the spirit run, I'm sure I'm not alone with that?

And storage space for all the damejeannes and the jars for all types of aging... Man, I am running out of space. I need to negotiate with my better half now about using closets and god knows where I can put my jars. The shed is below freezing now so that's not an alternative. The garage is also unheated. Any tips will be great but I realize it's all about my specific locale. I am starting to stack my jars on top of eachother, it's a disaster waiting to happen.

First world problems, I know! But my back still hurts.
