Let me start by saying I know alot of you here believe in doing AG only. Ive done them and I really cannot tell much difference in an AG where I have to use double the grain and spend hours squeezing them to get more liquid to distill, they just arent worth it to me.
That said Ive heard that the higher your OG goes when doing a sugar wash the less flavor youll get. I know that high proofs and strong flavors dont really exist together so well. But how high are we talking where it starts losing flavor?
Right now if I run a straight corn run Ill put 25lbs in my 30 gallon barrel and pour boiling water over it and steep it for about 2-3 hours stirring occasionally. Then I do 35lbs of sugar and I usually get about a 1.060. That usually yields me a little over a gallon in a 20 gallon boiler because I take very very tight cuts but the flavor is really good. If I were to try to up it to say 1.080 just to yield a little more would I be losing alot of my flavor?
More sugar less flavor?
