Hello from Pac NW! I started this hobby some five years ago with a cheap Amazon bought still that I taught myself to use while living in a hotel for work. I had previously been a homebrewer and some of my co workers wanted me to brew beer, but alas, no room for mashing equipment. I started with sugar washes, frozen apple juice brandy and molasses sugar rums fermented in five gallon water carboys (my company supplied water for our jobsite so I borrowed a few). I slowly upgraded from that still with hot plate, to an internal element and controller wired to a 20 amp plug. Worked great and I used the ac outlet in my room.
My equipment has been a constant work in progress with upgrades (liebig condenser, 13 gallon boiler and seven gallon thumper) that while looking kinda jankey, have produced some decent product such as gins, flavored rums, whiskey, and rums aged on toasted/chared oregon white oak from some family property.
Howdy all!
