Decided I might never get around to breaking lava rock and screening it to get 1/4 to 3/8 inch pieces. So decided to just by marbles. I had no idea how many marbles it would take. Bought 500 3/8 inch diameter marbles to be able to get an estimate. They fill a three inch column just short of 4 inches. So for a 60 inch column it will be a bit more than 7500 marbles, about $150 worth. 7500 will probably do it as there will be a couple inches of copper mesh over some soldered wires to hold the marbles up. Now you know.
