thermometer for thumper

Hola muchachos,
I want to install a thermometer on a small thumper from the Vevor still. The idiots from Vevor are refusing to sell me a thermometer.
all the bbq thermometers I can pull are 3 hole with 2 winged nuts. I want to find a single hole like the original Vevor thermometer.
any ideas?

Sorry to be contrary but…why? A thump is a passthru, secondary distillation. It is un heated, other than by the steam of the boiler. Having run one for many years I just don’t see it being of value other than an interesting number. Frankly, I have never used a thermometer in any part of the process. When the boiler boils, it boils. Control how fast with power, watching the stream. When the thumper boils, it tells you. The spout tells you when you reach the tails by taste, smell, and feel. Save your money.

To echo what Yonder had said, you simply don't need one Colin.

I have several thermometers dotted around where I distill, including laser, digital and old school glass dip in jobs, which are really handy for checking on ferments (I even have a fun to play with thermal imaging camera!)
But not one of them have anything to do with the 3 stills and thumper that I use.

One of these days I'll set one up to easily monitor my product outlet as I like to run as little water as possible, but I'll never have one in a still as it's simply pointless.

Another vote for thermometer not needed here.
You will learn a lot more and quicker just by using your senses of sight, touch , smell and taste.

Or you could use one to watch your pre heat by a some 500 w element so yo don't have to worry about a build up in your thumper especially if your using 2 retorts. You could also use it as a doubler for other projects. Just maybe not using a vevor.

I use double retorts ( 2x thumpers) on my Rum setup and buildup has not been a problem .
Iff’n this was the reason , better off investing in a sight glass than a thermometer .Or don’t use undersized thumpers.

Everything I own is a 60 l keg. They all have sight glasses but the steam generator. They're all set up to run alone as a boiler if I need to. I glad everything's good in your shed. Curious though how much grains do you put in your thumpers. And please point out the fault of putting a 500 watt element in one of my thumpers.

I can’t comment on grain in thumper . I not done that .
Well I have steam stripped Rice slurry a few times . But I doubt 500w would have helped that much compared to the equivalent of 5-6kw of gas that was under the steam boiler keg .

Anyway , I still think a thermo is pointless . You know bloody well when the thumper is getting close to the boil from the sound of it and whether or not you can hold your hand on the riser coming out of it.

No I use it it the last thumper to know what temp it is before I open steam gen although two runs in and you have the time down. I have loaned mine to a friend as I can't run anything until my next procedure. Without the preheat the Secord retort had quite a buildup. This in the tropics if the shed was cold I'm sure there would have been higher. I like the idea of putting it there although I originally bought it for a doubler when I thought I knew what a doubler was.
