Roasting malted grains - Ninja Air Fryer

Post by dunluce »

Anyone else try this? We didn't own one of these three years ago when I was last here.

Quicker than an over to heat, turn and mix easy with a plastic spatula....seems a quick way to roast the colour on some malt quickly and efficiently.

Good idea! I've been toasting base malts in the oven, the air fryer sounds easier.

Just be careful . Maybe put a piece of SS mesh over it .
Mrs Yummy tried to do something similar with rolled oats or something and it all got blown up into the element and nearly caught fire .

Good call. I found it an easy way to get a quick roast, but not sure if I appreciate the quality. I think a slow oven roast might actually work better in the long run, but in a pinch it is quick.

Ya sure it wasn't the husband of Mrs Yummy. :ewink:
My favorite grain drier/roaster is made from a junk 240v electric oven with a failed circuit board.
I gutted the electrics except for the heating elements, wired in a STC1000 for temp control and run it on 120V.
I friend barrowed it and added a small fan to stir the heat. It works much better with the fan.
A 22 rifle made a perfect hole for the fan shaft to fit through so the motor was outside the oven and a 12 gauge was just the right size for vent holes.

An airfryer would work fine for small batches.
