I had to do another upgrade to it, I've made 1½ gallons of high proof neutral and plan on making 2 gins and a little quart jar of vodka (just to see). So I needed a gin basket, i originally planned on using the big still for infusion but I figure I have the perfect still sitting on display in the dining room that has been semi retired, its time for it to shine again. We have a small stainless steam basket that I figured would fit perfectly in tge top, it did so how to hold it up there, I've been moving around from the car to the kitchen to my corner of the back room, a 10 inch length of solid ground wire for grounding boxes, and it clicked. Cut that into 3 pieces and solder them in place to go into the feet of the basket.
I will lay som cheese cloth in it so smaller seeds won't fall through but I think it work fine for what I need
Here's a little copoer porn from work
This pic shows how brazing turns the pipe black but running dry nitrogen through it while you braze keeps the inside nice

I think I'll go home and fire up my still, it might not make me feel better but, I bet it will

Corny , is the blue tape to seal the joints to keep the nitrogen flow while you systematically braze each joint ?
What is the importance of keeping the inside clean ?

Lovely Alambique, CC, and smart solution for the gin basket. I also use my small 6 liter/1.5g alambique, Natalia, for botanical runs but I let the spices sit with the charge. However, my alambique is riveted and leaks in some places, so it's a pain with the flour paste and teflon tapes everywhere.
Ongoing projects: Green Diamond Wheated Bourbon v5; and time for summer cleaning of the distillery.

Re: Modified my 6gl alembic
Its a medical gas system. Pipes come charged with dry nitrogen and the ends are plugged to seal, fittings are individually bagged with nitrogen. We tape the joints till we are ready to braze to keep the air out as much as possible. The internals have to stay spotless and free of oils and dusty debris, these pipes go to the outlets in the walls for o2, n20, med air, vacuum and wagd(anesthesia waste).
Pal, use your torch with a real light flame to slowly heat up the bad joint touch up the solder, wrap a wet rag or paper towel around any joint that is close, a little flux and touch up the bad joints. It does not take a lot of heat at allPalCabral wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2026 12:57 am Lovely Alambique, CC, and smart solution for the gin basket.
