Well folks, I switched DNS providers as a way to get off the old ISP entirely, but I obviously didn't do it 100% correct so the site was unreachable for a while.
Should be fixed now. DNS will propagate out across the greater internet at large and things should be back to normal, then in a few days I can dump the old service provider entirely.

it's a much better ISP. cost is the same but now we are on a mirrored hard drive setup so if one starts to fail, we won't be in panic mode like we were on the old ISP.

yes, I disabled the "guests can see first post only" extension because I think the back-end security stuff is solid enough that we can absorb and mitigate bot storms. i may or may not look at allowing guests to see images/attachments. that's another level of permissive.
