Lets get carried away with fruity goodness

Lots of little apples growing on my two apple trees this year. In september it's time again for making apple brandy. This year I am thinking of using apple juice from concentrate to add to the apple pomace for fermentation. Will allow me to lower the amount of sugar I add and hopefully add a lot of flavor to the fermented cider/pomace.

We had a very cold, late freeze while our apple tree was in full bloom, and there is literally not a single apple this year. I hope you have great luck!

I am counting on a good year this year. I haven’t checked out the orchards where I get my apples but am not too concerned as we had a mild winter.

We had the same thing here. I did see a few trees in town, where buildings and streets helped keep night temps up, did have some apples. But I think it will be a good year to concentrate on other things. I like doing my 40 gallon ferments and that takes a lot of apples.

I will try and find enough so we can have friends over, spend an hour or two pressing, get enough to send everyone home with a gallon of fresh cider. But, other wise just spend the time with friends, eating, drinking and socializing rather than pressing for volume.

Funny, thing

A couple days ago I was once again approached by someone who lives in Tacoma has a neighbor who has several loaded trees and said they didn't want their apples this year, so he asked if I wanted to come pick them but I can't this year

I moved to what is planned to be temporary housing in a gated community and all the apple stuff is in storage...although ...come to think of it I did buy that "worlds best juicer" at goodwill a few months ago...

I suppose I could also get everything together and have an apple pressing block party and get all my neighbors involved. My dog an I have met a great deal of them and everyone we met is very nice.

I also drive by a medium size tree every day and it's so loaded it's threatening to break branches and I'm sure not giving in to the temptation to pick this year is going to be an issue.

For me it's not even unusual. I often get offered whole trees to pick, most of them are too inconvenient.

in that case i wish i suffered your problem of free fruit trees...

it gets quite expensive buying enough fresh fruit to fill my 200 litre fermenter....
