Ouch

Post by Uncle Jesse »

Well folks, I switched DNS providers as a way to get off the old ISP entirely, but I obviously didn't do it 100% correct so the site was unreachable for a while.

Should be fixed now. DNS will propagate out across the greater internet at large and things should be back to normal, then in a few days I can dump the old service provider entirely.

Thank you for all your hard work, Uncle Jesse.

It appears that the previous condition "login to read posts" was dropped. I can now read all posts without logging in (though I cannot see posted images or attachments).

it's a much better ISP. cost is the same but now we are on a mirrored hard drive setup so if one starts to fail, we won't be in panic mode like we were on the old ISP.

yes, I disabled the "guests can see first post only" extension because I think the back-end security stuff is solid enough that we can absorb and mitigate bot storms. i may or may not look at allowing guests to see images/attachments. that's another level of permissive.

 Uncle Jesse, it must’ve been tough and laborious for you relentlessly working on the Forum. Your hard work and experience has ironed out all the bugs and the Forum has been running perfectly for sometime now.

Top job!

While I agree the work that’s been done is fantastic. I’d have to disagree that it’s been running perfectly. I still often have issues logging in.

I get a forbidden message. It happens to me sometimes at work so i cant guarantee its not something on my end. When it has happened to me at home, when i can log back in. You have posted that you have made a change, so assumed that fixed the issue.
