The different thing with Bombay Saphire compared to the others, is that they vapour infuse 1 botanical at a time, and then blend the infused spirits. Probably not practical to do it that way on a small scale.

wouldn't that be nice.....
the perfect blend,

do all herbs and spices separate once,
mix them to taste for your perfect blend,(everyone would be different)
every combination could be saved and bottled in a sample kit,
write down the amounts of each that you used,
then you got the exact amounts of herbs and spices you need for all of your future runs with no guess work,
you would save time and money in the long run and have a product you want right from the start,

then you could start experimenting with different wash's and mash's using the same recipe's you created,

i like it,

And you could use a different abv and speed of distillation to suit the needs of the herb you vapour infuse best. To get out the best tastes.

I even heared of a London based gin maker that uses vacuum distillation and sets different levels of abv, speed and vacuum just to get out the most of a herb, spice or berrie. The it all gets mixed.

Question that left in my mind is: arent you actually making essences and blending those. I admire the research in it, but feel that getting it all right in one go says something about craftmanship.

yes,
you are just not blending pure oils, you would be using diluted essences in alcohol called tinctures,
that’s what Bombay does, blend tinctures created by infusion,

if you ran the still with single botanical s with no alcohol and only water then you would extract the essences and they would come out condenser and float on the hydrosol, which then needs to be separated using an essencier,

then you have pure essences (oil based) and essence infuse water called hydrosol,
the amount of botanical s needed to get pure essences is huge,
it takes 40,000 rose pedals to make one oz of rose essence oil,
so hydrosol is way cheaper and more practical in making,

because of the small amount of botanical used to infuse gin flavours (on hobby scale) the oils would be measured by drop's,
not ml,

hydrosol can be used to flavour gins but dilutue the alcohol percentage,
which could be just fine as long as you don't go below 40%,

so i can see using essecial oil and hydrosol to flavour gin,
but it would be very easy to add to much flavour this way,
if you screw it up you can allways through it back in the still and run it again,

looking at it this way makes gin a medicine,

... which is what gin originally was: a medicine to prevent kidney failure!
