tell ya what, i'll make you mag holders, to go on your belt
what i need from you is the dimensions of the magazine, and
, you need to pick out what color/colors of paracord, it will be approx 100' per magazine holder
you pay the material i'll make em no charge..
the paracord holster i like because its soft, regular holster is hard, gets uncomfortable when you lean on it
i have made 5 of them so far,1 for a keltec and 4 1911's

I love driving along the sound, the only problem is paying attention to the road instead of looking off at the water and Olympics. Today there is a breeze coming off the sound so I can even smell it at the house

bearriver wrote: Just make sure you buy an extra %15 material for waste. When you get the material let me know. I could probably help you bang out a deck that small in a lazy afternoon. I got all the tools to get it done quick and right. It's just a matter of scheduling the time.

I never been much for waste, I've planned this out pretty well, I think, although I can't really say what right is. I once built a deck out of landscape timbers and 2x6s that you could park a tank on. This time I'm trying to get it done a little more standard in case I have to get some retro permits. We called the city and asked about permits and they said to just do it but once you start do it quickly because the city inspector likes to drive around and look for unpermitted work going on but the worst that will happen is he will make you take the decking up to make sure the structure is sound so my plan is to do it ninja style. Cut everything and get it ready to go up then blitz it and get it up in one day or maybe overnight.
I have begun cutting the parts so I hope it is good

It is kind of an odd setup because it is only 12'x5' and goes around the chimney and over the top of a concrete stoop that is only slightly wider than the door. It will be fully covered so I don't think that will matter much. I already have most of the parts cut. We just got back from Home Depot with all the rest of what I think we need although I forgot flashing, We wound up going with ceder decking because it worked out to the cheapest and best option. Did you know composit decking requires the Joists to be spaced less then 12" and preferably 8? I think I am going to plan on getting this done probably Tuesday evening ow Wednesday. Then I can get back to the things that matter.

Cranky, considering what you eventually intend to do in said structure, wouldn't it be wiser to go through proper channels...??? Those inspectors can be a pain... If you don't let them inspect after the fact they call for a uniform officer and then request a warrant if you don't grant access... And you don't have to be home and grant access for them to stroll the property and take a look-see... Just a quick FYI...

+1 on the permits. If I can do the work without one I will, but sometimes the risk just isn't worth it...
Trex is a pain. 8 inch joists and the specialty screws are stupid expensive. The cedar was a good choice.
I always get an %15 extra material on construction projects and return or stack the unused bits. Drywall, framing, paint...ect It's standard to burn up an extra %10 easy with scraps, and that only leaves the other %5 for an occasional mistake. Funny thing is that construction companies don't return the leftovers. Most run a cost + model. Mats plus %15 = labor cost, so all that brand new material gets hauled to the dump at the end. I built a fully finished 20 x 30 workshop with Union material on it's way to the dump. The only thing it cost me was the concrete rat slab.

Thank you rad and bear they are words of wisdom and I will go ahead and get the permit. I don't think the city would go to such extremes as to get a warrant over a simple deck code violation but I wouldn't put it past them to go around peeking in windows to see what else I might be up to. Not that they would find anything but I just don't need the unwanted attention.
I know what you mean about the waste in the building industry. I knew a finish carpenter and he would bring me the leftovers Sometimes a complete 16' stick would be used for a 1 or 2ft piece and the rest just thrown away. I went pretty extreme with my trim work because I had enough for several houses.
Anyway, I'm going through all the permit BS right now and will let you know when that is done. Maybe I will get the garage cleaned up so I'm not embarrassed to let someone come over and help me with this endeavor not that it will be all that much to do myself. I tend to find it difficult to ask for or even accept help. Remember I'm still kind of new to this whole friends thing.

Cranky, do not clean up that garage,if you do, you will start a domino effect of garage cleaning that could possibly reach from one end of the country to the other.
all it takes is for a "wife" to hear of it.
she will decree saturday as garage clean up day.
fuggin it up for everybody,

What you need is a sign posted that reads "Master Artisan at work do not disturb"
there's no good reason too clean because it's all about discover. You already know thats there, it's best left for someone else to discover.

Bring the wife back over and I'll show her my "dog house" (maybe after she will let you out of yours). The dog house is that 20x30 building I just described. It's stuffed wall to wall with tools and material inside all the way to the ceiling. I got more stacked up around the back of the building.
If I stay on track, I should be finished up with my current job by Wednesday. It would be nice to get out of the house and make a visit. The customer originally wanted me to frame in two doors, after which she added little things here and there until we built an entire garage. I'm painting the drywall and siding it tomorrow... Once that's done I'll hit you up for a pow wow.

Mine did too!!! She thought you could actually park a car in a garage!!!! She still thinks I should only get half of it and THE CAR should get the other half! Like a car knows what to do with a garage. I tried it once and all the car did was just sit there doing nothing and taking up space.

I plan on getting the application in within the next day or two. I don't know how long it will take but I don't really expect issues. I've never actually built anything with a permit before. Once in Kansas I wanted to rewire my house and change the electrical box to 200Amp instead of 100 so I called the electric company. The electrical engineer answered the phone and I asked him about it and what permits were required. He asked my address and said "I'll be over in 5 minutes". He showed up, asked me where I wanted to put the meter, told me how tall the mast needed to be and what wire to use, handed me the meter box and said "Call me when your ready and we will hook up the wires". I said "What about permits? "Oh you don't need those, just call us when your ready"
I did some researching and in that town the only permits required were for walls and sidewalks, nothing else. I completely rebuilt that house, replaced every single wire in it, left no wall untouched, redid the roof, and replaced all the plumbing (3 times

) and never got a permit. Now I live where permits seem to be required for everything and I have trouble doing that. I also have trouble feeling like I am taking advantage of you if I accept your help.

I have a lawn mower, it is a self propelled battery start walk behind that goes too fast for my wife to use, it just sort of drags her behind if she tries. I don't mind doing the yard, it's rather small and now a large portion of it is taken up by raised beds and fruit trees. Her idea of doing the yard is to hire someone to do it and I can't stand that. Unfortunately I won't be able to have a shed for some time in the future. Right now my lawn mower is sitting in the back yard which actually gives me enough room to actually use the door.

Now I can show you guys the small amount of progress I have managed to make this week. My week has been very busy which is why I haven't managed to do or post much but I did manage to get a little further along. so here are the pictures of my progress.
These first 3 show the plate I did the other day all nice and cleaned up. If you look back to the last pictures you can see what it looked like a few days ago
or you could look at this one.
That was what it looks like before I level the bottom and solder on the base. Doing the multiple tubes with built in spouts has actually proved to be rather difficult. The problem is I need to solder the angle cuts before I can cut the section out that goes against the down tube. Then I have to be careful not to make that cut too deep so there is still some copper joining the spout to the up tube so if I get it slightly too hot soldering it on it won't fall apart. Then I have to try to get all 4 tubes safety wired to the down tube long enough to get the 4 of them soldered on. It's not as easy as you might think but I managed to get this one soldered up this evening. Tomorrow I hope to get the bottom leveled and the plate soldered on.
This last one shows the 2 pieces The finished and unfinished side by side. What a difference a little sanding and polishing can make.

Well it's starting off to be a pretty good day in muggles making

I actually somehow had enough time to solder the up tubes and spouts onto another plate so I will be able to level and prep 2 of them today if somehow time allows.

I got the 2 plates I soldered yesterday and this morning all finish soldered tonight. I didn't take any pictures because they look pretty much like the other 2 before cleanup. I hope to get them cleaned up tomorrow. This will give me all that I plan on using but I also plan on making one more in case I feel the need for 5 plates. The problem is I ruined 6 of the up tubes while trying to get them in place so I will have to make 4 more before I can finish that one.
Now on to concentrating on that porch.

Actually no I don't. In fact I'm lucky if I can find a pair of pliers. I do have some of these though
But usually safety wire works for holding things together. I thought about getting a couple 3rd hands from Harbor Freight but just haven't yet.

Well I got the 2 plates mostly cleaned up today. I have a bit more to do but am far enough along now to get an idea what it will look like.
4 plates and 5 mugs for a total mug height of 35ish inches. I routed out the upper opening in the UFO to make it more open and trimmed down the 1.5" pipe inside, removing the cap. My intention is to turn the UFO upside down, solder a connector to the short bit of 1.5" pipe sticking out and run the Dad300 style condenser through the side and down into the top mug so I have a visible condenser. The UFO will also serve as a reinforced top hat to help hold the whole thing together.
