If it can be fed to a horse then you can eat it safely. Horses have a very delicate stomach. just ask them if its horse feed or not. Producers pride all grain is what I use and it works great.

I agree, no problem buying large amounts of yeast. I've never had a problem with sugar either, I just grab 20kg or so at a time when on sale, and there are always other groceries I need at the same time. Wifey gets the blame for needing all the sugar the odd time when the cashier makes a comment.

And if you can add for instance the spend grain to the low wines and also distill on the grain ... factor two more flavour again!

The only kind of feed I can find is M-G All Grain, will this work? Its not sweet feed but its all grain, ingredients list just says grain products. All sweet feed that I find is pelleted.

Then just use what you can find without the pellets. And add some molasses yourself.

can anyone tell me what would happen if I distill the batch of mash that I used the turbo yeast in? I never git an answer and can't find any info.

if its done working distill it you never know. might get off flavors might be fine never know till you do it thats why you get steered clear of turbos you just dont know.worst case it tastes like shit

would the activated carbon stuff help on the off flavor of it did turn out bad?

I used Tractor Supplys producers pride all grain==made some of the best whiskey I've ever tasted. Got 5 gal fermentin' now. :D

None of the Tractor Supply Co. around me carry the all grain just pelleted.

okay I have the mash done it is been approximately 2 days I have 2 of the 5 gallon buckets still bubbling the third has quit is that normal? the two mash buckets they are working is bubbling very well. the third has bubbled well since I started except till now. the sugar cant be burned off now could it? I know he said it would slow down after 2 days but is it supposed to completely stop bubbling?

you can ask them to order it for you. I know that it is a pain in the butt* to wait but u would then have a steady supply if you bought enough. I personally haven't done this but I have the option of other feed stores.

I just read the label on about 10 different bags. make sure u ask if its all natural and has no additives like stuff to improve holve health or its medicated. all u should have in it is oats, corn, and molasses...and any other grain. also ask if you can look at the feed. if it doesn't have molasses then you can always add it but that can get into your expenses. its just easier to buy it with molasses already in it. less headache.

Stay from pellets. Messy and does not yield enough final product. Also if you have too much salt added in some brands, then your ferment will not be hardy! Cornfed

When yall do this recipe do yall just boil the water then pour it into the fementer with the sweetfeed? I seen where some people cook it for a hour or so before they put it into the fermenter. WHich way it best?

regarding safety - get racehorse or horse grade SF only - there are other uses for SF and some of those may contain drugs.

In production, some drugs are added for certain animals/use of the feed ... dunno if it matters in distillation, but these are added for some clients.
Then they run a wack of feed thru to clear out the drugs out of the feed production system
Then they make horse feed - because you would hate to win a big race and find out some cattle drug got you disqualified, losing the purse you won. Racehorses are tested quite a bit for drugs on a olympic athlete level. Some are permitted, but in general horse trainers want to administer/level the drugs manually (with a vet) and as such will not tolerate added drugs in their feed.

Just use corn,oats, barley and molasses only! Dont use any sweetfeed with anything more. The Tractor Supply all grain is the best premixed version. Southern States grain company will custom mix you up a bag. Like said above look at the contents or have it mixed for you. Petco, or any national pet store will carry it. If you cant find it then find a Horse stable and ask them where they buy their horse feed at. Dairy Goat farms also buy it as a supplement. If it not available in your part of the world then i also recommend mixing 60% corn+30%barley+10rye and converting the cracked grains at 160degrees for 90 minutes with no sugar or very little sugar to produce a nice whiskey. Use your hydometer to get your potential alcohol to at least 8% and no more than 12%. Cornfed

This may be bad, as I am just learning about cuts, but first run off of this, threw out the first about 10 ml then kept the rest and it tastes amazing. Maybe just not tasted a good true sweet feed, but so far it taste great. I was wondering if I charred some mesquite wood and ran it through that if that might work. Has anyone tried wood other than oak? Thanks.

I'm gettin ready to run my first batch of sweet feed.6 gal. For the second gen. I plan on using 2 gallons of backset , adding 7 lbs of sugar, and a handful of new grain. I used prestige ultra whisky with ag for my yeast. Will there still be life left in the yeast or should I add another pouch?

I usually add another 1 1/4 teaspoons of regular yeast each time just for good measures.

You shouldn't have to add more yeast, if your careful with your ferment, after you remove your wash to put into your boiler. Add water to cover the grain. Then when you add your dunder, make sure the temp is 90 degrees or so, not too hot, will kill your yeasties. Your ferment should take off in an hour or so, mine always does.. :D

Mine also starts up quick, I am on gen three sweet feed. Hadn't been achieving the abv we wanted so I added more sugar this time.

Also, is there any danger if you we're to ferment for a few days then realize you we're not able to run your wash when it would be ready, could you add more sugar to prolong the process? This ? Came up last time we were running and thought I would throw it out there
