Well, I'll be damn. Thanks to Dnderhead I have a new way to spell check, much easier than the one I had before. Just click on the ABC Spell Check box on the tool bar at the top, and viola - spell check. Thanks Dnder.

As most here know, I just turned 50 in June...

Prior to starting my first lifetime career I was pulled aside by my high school guidance counselor and principal who both pleaded that with my intelligence I could be a doctor, lawyer, physicist, rocket scientist, or whatever I wanted to be... In reply I told them "You're right, I can be whatever I want and I want to be an auto mechanic, and perhaps someday own my own garage or car dealership."... They argued with me for quite some time, to no avail, and I ended up passing on college because I had already had my fill of the educational system... I went on to be a nationally respected automotive trouble shooter as well as turning a failing dealership into a five star (Chrysler's highest rating) dealership in less than a year as service manager... All of that in five short years... If I had had a college degree I would have had a job working at Chrysler's testing grounds by that time as that is where they wanted me... Corporate bureaucracy is all that was stopping that from happening...

After a back injury, caused by an auto accident in which I was the passenger, I switched careers by purchasing one of those new-fangled computers and started programming the day of the purchase... Anything that requires in-depth thinking and logic interests me so computers and programming were a perfect fit... That's probably a major reason why I enjoy home distillation as well...

Do I have any regrets today...??? Not really... I'm not rich but I never wanted to be rich anyway... Sure, I wish I was more financially secure than I am but I know plenty of people with multiple degrees who are in worse shape than I am... And I know people who don't even have a GED who definitely have more money than brains and prove it over and over by making and losing more money than I'll ever make in my lifetime...

wow rad... I happen to be a master chrysler tech. Yes, they used to be one of the best. Now, well I am quite disgusted with them. (Being a Master Ford tech as well, I see the light) Chrysler is the most unorganized cluster F. of a company. With no tech support and service information that appears to be written by monkeys. The product they are putting out these days is about the cheapest POS imaginable. Warranty is through the roof. If we were just a chrysler dealer, most of us would have quit by now. Enough about that..... Thats funny you mention that about school. I was the same way. Told I could do anything. I too chose the auto industry. Ended up winning the Ford student auto skills comp. my senior year. Got 2 yrs. free school out of that. Otherwise I wouldnt have went. Funny how things turn out sometimes.

It is strange how circumstances play a role in our lives. I used to be a "Ford" man. Went through a bunch of Ford cars and about 6 Ford pickups, and then a retired Dodge Dealership owner became a very close friend through organizations we both belong to. He sold the Dealership to his son, and through him I know his son.

Now I drive a Dodge pickup not because I especially like them (they are cheap and crappy to me), but because of my friend, and his son. Through them I get excellent service at the Dealership when needed. No waiting, or whatever. I hate to say it, but in our society it really is who you know.

BTW both he and his son refused to put on the coat and tie and wear the Dealership Owner cap, but wore the Service Manager cap instead. They both are mechanics. The Dad now restores old cars.

You guys talking about being mechanics is what led me to make this post.

MuleKicker, we have plenty in common... My team partner and I won the Plymouth Troubleshooters competition at the state level with the only perfect car to make it through judging to date, at the time... Went on to nationals and wouldn't let the car go through judging because it wasn't perfect, due to bad test equipment provided by Snap-On as I recall... The line judge begged us to go through judging, as did our instructor, but we declined... At the awards dinner the judging panel announced that had we proceeded to judging we would have won the national championship because they checked every vehicle after the competition and ours would have had the highest overall score... I still ended up with a two year scholarship to automotive school but never took advantage of it because I was already working for Chrysler part time and would be going full time as soon as I graduated...

I've mainly driven Chrysler products my entire life, with but a few exceptions... I just purchased a used Ford Windstar last week and the jury is still out on whether I'm as happy with it as I would be with a Chrysler product... I've always had good luck with Chrysler and have always done a majority of my own repairs...

Rad, that is some cool shit. I knew that chrysler sponsored the auto skills comp before Ford. (Before my time ) your deal there sucks, we had a team at nationals that got bumped way down because a "bug" in the car didnt work. Shitty deal. As for the windstar, I will still say, Chrysler was the father of the minivan. The older RS body (01-07) was a good van. Probably better than a windstar. But They went downhill when they produced this monster of a minivan that they sell these days. Electrical nightmare. Highspeed CAN, Interior highspeed CAN, Medium speed CAN. A networking Nightmare . Not to mention, recalls up the ass.

Well im 31 and have 2 years of automotive votech, i dont post too much, but thats only cause im reading what the folks that know what there doing are posting,

So thanks to yall, and im going to go back to reading.

43, high school, almost 1 yr college, multiple job related schools and military schools, worked on everything that doesn't have a propeller and a couple that have jet engines. i build gadgets for fun, like lasers vandegraff generators and marshmellow guns. hunt, fish, reload, and of course, a little stillin on the side. i speak a bit of several languages, and can still carry 200 lbs on one shoulder. college wasn't for me. i prefer to learn at my own pace.

Hell no. I'm a home distiller at most,. and an artisan distiller at best. Stillin' is my escape from reality; IE: my hobby(one of many).

Hopefully, Blind Eternities will post a few times. It looks like this is a 'real' signup, and not some garbage spam/robot (which is good). Looks like it might be a student / teacher (came from a .edu in .au), so possibly he/she will be someone who becomes a regular.
