You mean when they charged the still for the spirit run? I suspect they don't have to, as the boiler is steam heated(IE: safe) and they appear to be collecting the strip runs all the way down to nothing and then some, so the spirit run charge will likely be low ABV anyhow.

Aye! No! Like you, I run electric, and it is indeed very safe, BUT.... if an element should fail, we could have a big issue on our hands with a high ABV wash. With steam, there is NO danger even if things go wrong, because the energy source is remote.

You must dilute! 40% max!!!

Plenty of water really needs to remain in the boiler after all the alcs are removed. The more water the more spread-out the run. Thus the cuts will be more accurate.

If you run a 'wash' at 60% everything comes through all at once and it comes very fast. Think of heating a few gallons of gasoline...you will be playing with a bomb. At 60% when the alc is gone there is hardly anything left in the boiler...a safety issue. The cuts will be smeared and that's a tastin issue.

Gas or electric, never charge the boiler more than 40% alc. If you are into a good product then it's the taste. If you are greedy then it's a safety issue.

I go by taste, thus 30% is pushin the limits because the best cuts happen when the boiler is charged under 30% alc. Others may go faster but they will sure know what theyre doin.

Guys,

It would be pretty funny if Tater or MK went on that show. Gotta love all that plastic! But in their defense, most of these craft distillers and most have less knowledge than us. I suppose we ought to support the small guys since they make less vile s@#$ than the big boys. Hey, here's an idea for a reality TV show, HD TV, HAHAHA! We could make stuff people can't get on any shelf, it would totally piss them off! Sorry, folks, just me being goofy!

By the way if this is a dirty job, then sign me up!
