Why bother with the carbonation drops? they're just an expensive way to buy table sugar. Bulk priming is faster ,more accurate and there are calculators to give you the exact weight of sugar for your volume. Also a secondary greatly reduces the amount of sediment in the bottle (improved by the use of finings), which to my taste produces a far better product

You said it best rangaz; to each his own. I won't deny that a secondary has it benefits because I'm with you, but I have managed to get clear beer without it and have saved myself the added time and effort. I made a post about this recently because of a youtube video I watched. Secondaries have their time and place, but aren't necessary in this guy's
opinion. Also, I know that bulk priming is better for reasons that I mentioned, but I don't think it is faster . . . I only agree that it is more expensive, but then again time is money as they say.

i dont bulk prime as i prefer not to chance infection or oxygenation of the beer, i agree it's faster (at bottle stage) and might make a clearer product.
but i just pour to a glass or jug and leave the yeast in the bottle
i prime each bottle with the sugaz
but each to their own, as long as the beer is good !!

I really don't get why a few of you have said bulk priming is faster. I don't disagree with the benefits of bulk priming mentioned, but I think it is a more time consuming process that involves more sanitizing, plus siphoning into a secondary bucket. These things are more time consuming than simply adding carbonation drops, which is why lazy people opt for carbonation drops. So, for those who differ from me, I wonder why our experiences are different. Maybe some people have fast siphons and quick sanitation methods while others are the opposite, and some are excellent at dropping sugar into bottles while others have poor hand eye co-ordination?
I might start bulk priming soon regardless of the time factor just for consistency of carbonation. With proper sanitation I don't think infection should be fretted over just because of bulk priming, otherwise reconsider your sanitation methods.

i believe that after bottle priming you will go for the keg method. and another vote for austin brewers. pricing is very competitave and thier shipping policy is excellent

Thanks to a local Groupon deal my wife and I are taking a little homebrew class in a couple of weeks. The class is just the basics using extracts, but it will be a good start for us. Getting her interested in brewing and wine making will mean I have a partner to help with my ferments. (She's a former medical lab tech/microbiologist and can identify a lot of bugs just by smell.)
A buddy brought me a bottle of his latest IPA last weekend and, though it was a few days short of being fully carbonated, it tasted terific. The next day I had one of the worst hangovers since college. I'm going to have to do a little research on that.
I may have said it before, but the long-term goal is to have two corny kegs under the bar with beer for me and my neighbors, and rootbeer for the kids.
