I live on a farm. We are always prepared, and if not, we pay! We lose power in the dead of winter. We have the roads wash out in the summer and it can be a week before you get to town. It just happens.
We have issues with wild animals, crazy fucking loons off the highway, and the occasional "witness" that tries to knock on the door!
I had no idea that this was even a "Thing" that city people do. I had no idea that this was a "THING" at all.

Yep, that's what i'z sayin in tha beginin, its a way of life....its what we do...how we are... just is...

I have three little ones, a wife, dog and a mortgage so I understand where you are coming from.I started out very small by purchasing some rice, beans and salt. I kept on adding to it a little at a time and was really surprised just how fast you can get to a point where you can sit back and take a breath.

Grain storage is a great idea! If I could offer a suggestion, get some Mylar bags (I get mine from a prepper store but you can find them on line really cheap) and a flat iron (the kind the women folk use to straiten their hair) to seal them with. I would then get some 5 gallon buckets with a lid. Put your grain (or whatever you want to store) in the bag inside the bucket and instead of dry ice toss in one of those disposable hand warmers (Hot Hands), they act exactly the same as oxygen absorbers you buy from those prepper sites. The warmer will use up all the oxygen in the sealed bag and Bobs your uncle, no bugs! Put the lid on the bucket and you should be good for a number of years. If you use the Mylar bags you won't have to get food grade buckets which run from 12 to 15 bucks each (I use good old Homer buckets from Home Depot). This kind of storage should work for any kind of grain as well as sugar.

Prepare for when your own government orders you to assemble at a collection centre. Prepare for neighbour against neighbour, friend against friend, family included. Total confusion, suspicion, and fear. That's when to take your mind, along with a bug-bag, and...head for the hills or stay where you are? Fate (the Shit-Factor) applies all the time...for and against,

Already been through that too. Revolutionary war, Civil war. When it comes to that, headin for the hills wont' do you much good once the shootin starts and spreads. Sooner or later, you got to pick sides and follow that to the end, wherever that goes.

Too true again, Rad. Bugging out is escaping the solution. You have to choose and then fight for your choice. Bugging-out is an option right or wrong depending on what others choose.

I would not call myself a prepper, BUT I am a regular shooter and hunter, so I typically keep around 10k of various ammunition (not including .22) on hand. Also due to my frugal nature I tend to stock up on food when it is on sale, so I have at least a years worth of dry goods. Couple that with a halfway decent amount of UJSSM I have sitting on wood, and I think I would be okay until I ran out of UJSSM LOL. Of course I have well over 40 firearms (I can't pass up a good deal) so I am sure there are some on here in my AO that would trade some of their product for firearms and ammunition once I depleted my store of hooch.
