That's real helpful!
A "Spirit Run" is the final run of collected "Stripped Runs".
I do 6.5 gallon batches of an all-grain recipe I came up with. I'll ferment each batch of 6.5 gallons and run it through my pot still at a relatively fast pace to strip the alcohol from the mash. I collect about 5 of these to get a total of 2 1/2 gallons of about 70% alcohol. Once I collect this 2 1/2 gallons I add it to my still for the last run and dilute it to about 35% and run it. This is the "Spirit Run". The "Spirit Run" is generally run slower.

Oh, because at 152 post in 3 years, you've really spent enough time helping people?
You failed in your response to tell him what a strip run was, too. I have to assume that if he doesn't know one term, he can't know the other. But you walk in like a spoon feeding hero, throwing a 'simple' explanation together to try and make a point. Well, you might as well go on and explain what all grain is, a pot still, why we dilute it to 35%, how slow a slow run is, the benefits, the benefits of not doing one, and to be fair, we should go ahead and tell him about a 1.5 run, as well. We wouldn't want him to not know about that.
Go ahead, write a book for him.
Or he can read the book that we are all writing in, this living breathing answer, and he can understand all that he does not know. And you, you martyr, can go on helping someone who has actually read up and done their part.

What an arrogant twit. I have a life and don't spend it on here playing god. It's a frick'n "Novice" forum, if you don't want to answer someone's question, move on?
I'll help who I want to help.

Sorry guys, I just don't understand making a post flaming someone's question. It's a "novice" forum, if you feel a question is beneath you don't feel obligated to post.
Hard to believe that a generic answer to a basic question would get someone so worked up.

Smokee,
You're just too "green" to fully understand what spoonfeeding is, that or you have yet to answer the same (fundamental) question a 100 (or more) times.
Its just that at some point enabling lazy behavior becomes counterproductive to the individual and the website. The "correct" answer was given....to read Cranky's Spoon Feed thread.

I guess that's my point, no one's obligated to care what someone posts - this isn't my first or only forum. I guess in our butt-hurt, over sensitive society, just ignoring what pisses ya off is asking too much.
I don't think this was a good example either. I've read some reasonable questions asked that brought on the same response. Having a place such as a
Novice Distillers - Other discussions for folks new to the wonderful craft of home distilling. where noobs can hang out together and learn from each other asking questions without fear of getting flamed seems like a reasonable thought. I have things I'd like to ask that after much time spent reading and searching I'm still unclear but feel it's not worth the fight.... so then what's the point of this forum?

IMHO You HELP a novice by providing him guided supervision.... Sometimes that supervision is a simple answer and sometimes it requires a larger understanding. I never (well...almost never) say anything with the intent of malice but when someone asks such a broad based question... they probably have MANY more questions that need answering as well. That's where reading comes in. Abitaman joined about 1 month ago with 5 posts so I assume he has a LOT of questions (as he should). He needs guidance, not answers.
You answer someone's every question then your intent is to have a trainee. You help someone find their own answers you have a colleague.
Abitaman if you took offense then I apologize as that was not the intent. The editorial was not necessary and I am sorry.

Smokee - these comments have NOTHING but malice in them and before you go firing off at another you should reflect on what you have to say. Flaming someones ANSWER is just as bad a flaming a question... your version of help is just different than mine. Also, who is REALLY playing God here... the guy that lets you know you can help yourself or the guy that "saves the day" by knowing all the answers? Maybe just different Gods.
BTW... As someone who teaches every day... no questions are beneath me and I still ask plenty of (probably stupid) questions myself.
Thank you all once again for your continued support.
Sorry to derail...

Instead of asking for "horse feed", find a place that sell's "COB" (pronounced like it's spelled, not individual letters). It's a standard mix of corn oats and barley, no addatives. If you want molasses in it, then ask for COB with molasses

We are quite familiar... If you want molasses all you need to ask for is "Wet COB"... Rolls off the tongue easier and they know exactly what you're talking about at the mills and feed stores... Plus then you sound like you know more about what you're talking about and they are less likely to ask questions...

Careful, that can be as slippery slope. Like when the feed store guy asks, "Whatcha feedin'?"
"Horses" I said like I know what I'm talking about.
"Oh well let me show ya this. It's way better."
And he's dragging me off to some pelletized bullshit full of minerals and something to make your hooves shiney.
I like to play dumb and dominated. "Hey man I'm just following orders here. You tryin' to get me in trouble with the boss lady?"
The best part is I don't have to discuss the finer points of equine nutrition with some guy who is just trying to help. I haven't been to that feed store since.

Rad, I've been buying Cob here for over 20 yrs and they always ask "With or without molasses?", cause during the Winter I go for "wet" and Summer, "dry". I figure the same questions can be asked in different parts of the country and the answers will mostly be different according to area. BTW, the "COB" reference was for the newbie asking for "Horse Feed".

The feed stores and mill in my part of texas have no clue what cob is,either wet or dry... its called all grain horse and mule , with the option of sweet or dry.

Edited to add:
I think the name for" sweet feed " can be very regional...

There's a lot of agriculture in my area, plenty of feed stores, but none have anything similar to the Manna Pro COB I've always used. I got a bag locally of what was previously described as "wet" molasses with some pellets and it didn't turn out well. The pellets dissolved into mush and the whole thing has a somewhat nasty smell. I did two 5 gallon washes and am thinking of not distilling it. I've been just doing AG and don't really feel like messing with sweet feed, I'd give to someone if I wasn't paranoid.
Something doesn't seem right with Walmart being out of stock of Manna Pro for so long, wonder if they're not making it anymore.

OMG Smokee, dump it. They put weird shit in that pelletized stuff. That's why they pelletize it,to put the weird shit in. Never seen it turn out good.

I gave up on trying to find sweet feed without pellets in it. I make my own now. This is my mix that I make.
7 1/2lbs cracked corn
7 1/2lbs barley
7 1/2lbs flaked oats
36 oz molasses

Good on ya Deerhunter, been doing that from my 3 batch of SF, and then left out the molsasses, and turned to a AG! Lots cheaper per ferment to mix it yourself

Its clearly obvious that aside from using different measurement systems, different electricity, different heating systems, different ways of making whiskey, ect, ect, we also have a different sence of humour too. That's interesting.
it was a joke. I was actually genuinely interested for one of the above reasons.

I was just curious, that would sound like a thick mash to me. I had to get the calculator out there.poxy imperial system.
We would usually go about 22lb per 10 gallon or thereabouts. With also added sugars.
