well just distilled a batch. used my 6 qt. didnt take as long this time. did a stripping run first, then made cuts and took out 4 ounces of the heads on second run. no paint thinner taste this time. YAY! lol. got more good stuff this batch than any other. and its actually good stuff this time.
all my still really is is just a copper pipe coming up from where the weight is supposed to be and its running to a condensor. simplest form imho. ill stick to this for awhile get money saved up and make a proper still.

I would recommend that when you are doing such small quantities that the "fineness" of your recipe is key... That is, make the best, smoothest, etc. damn wash that you can make, as the harsh flavors will be somewhat reduced through smearing and so forth. Try a rolled oats with brown sugar or such, guaranteed to make a pretty smooth drop, and then use very small jars and look at the middle jars as your potential hearts....

Well read the whole mess an just wanted to add a mouthful myself, worries me folks are readin this stuff on the internet and then jumping in unsupervised, I'm all for learning a new skill or makein you own likker but you need guidance when it comes to stillin. My Pepaw made me just watch and taste for ten year before he ever let me do my first mash much less a run. I sure hope folks understand how important it is to have a good base of knowledge, things can happen mighty fast in a run especially if you don't know what to even look for, glad there's folks like you all here to guide them stray's.

Kravenhed,
I'm sure your Pepaw was running an open flame too.
Can't be too careful with fire, oxygen and a fuel source.
