I totally agree, being an ex- military man who has served in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Desert Storm I am somewhat embarrassed at how easy I let the Police into my house., I really was caught on the back foot and struggled to talk myself out of trouble.

I do have two dogs, one is a Dalmatian and the other is a Labrador and both were curled up on the floor taking a time out showing no interest with my visitors.

On a lighter note the 350 mls of Allbran hearts which I managed to distill before the police came, tasted excellent. Thanks Rad, great recipe.

I was stationed in Holy Lock Scotland in the 80s. Anyone who has put themselves in mortal danger or servied in support of there respective country's, understands how much of a sacrifice was givin to secure the rights we injoy, and sometimes take for granted. Don't apologizes to anyone for using them! This ISN'T A PRIVILEGE, it's a right payed for infull with blood.

Well said NV. I did serve as well, never in mortal danger, altho I did freeze my balls off maintaining a plane through cold ass winters for SAC, USAF, on the 'alert pad' in North Dakota, ready for war in a moments notice in the early 80's when we were 2 seconds from nuclear war with Russia. Strange times. Stationed in Cali otherwise, that part was nice :) Yes, many of us have made commitments in the military, the ultimate committment sadly for many, to maintain our freedoms and way of life. These are not arbitrary privileges we are willing to die for.
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

Don't minimize your service, you were in mortal danger EVERYDAY! You just did realize it at the time. Like myself, I wasn't boots on the ground but did watch as the missiles as they left the deck. Doesn't matter if you were a supply clerk safely tucked away in the U.S. the commitment was made to defend our freedoms at the cost of your life!
Use your rights! For gods sakes they've been paid for

Not to side track things too much, but I wonder how many of us on the forum are veterans, like percentage wise. just something that comes to mind whenever I see someone mention that they are.

Why don't we keep this thread, and every other, away from politics?

Hi Goose Eye, I haven't been making any heirlooms but the one I've got is almost worn out so it might be time for another one.
Re; Politics, I was referring to the talk about military and defending freedom. It's political depending on which end of the gun you are at.
In any case, in the country the OP lives, we don't have a written constitution, our government doesn't afford us rights and we aren't citizens, so it's all a bit irrelevant to the case in point.

In England and Wales the police can usually only enter without a warrant if they intend to arrest somebody inside the house who they have reasonable suspicion has commitied a crime. Most of the powers of entry the police have are set out in the Police And Criminal Evidence act 1984. As for the crime of distilling without a license, it is technically a 'non-arrestable offence' as it is doesn't carry a prison sentence, only a fine. In that way it is comparible to some minor motor traffic offences like speeding, you won't be arrested when caught, rather the police are supposed to assertain your identity so that you can be be issued a summons and then fined, you only go to jail if you don't cough up the fine. In the case of speeding they have your car's reg no, in the case of illegal distilation they should only arrest you if they have good reason to believe that you are lying to them about your identity.

Disclaimer - this is true to the best of my knowledge but I'm not a lawyer, and besides the police themselves often don't know the law so YMMV.

I guess I didn't consider that.
