Are Canadian or Australian pennies even copper? U.S. pennies have been copper plating over a zinc core since 1982. The last 100% copper U.S. pennies were minted in 1857

U.S. penny composition over the years:

1793–1796 100% copper
1796–1857 100% copper
1856–1864 88% copper, 12% nickel (also known as NS-12)
1864–1942 "bronze" (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
1943 zinc-coated steel (also known as 1943 steel cent)
1944–1946 "brass" (95% copper, 5% zinc)
1946–1962 "bronze" (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc)
1962–1981 "brass" (95% copper, 5% zinc)
1982 varies: "brass" (95% copper, 5% zinc) or copper-plated zinc (97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper)
1983–present 97.5% zinc, 2.5% copper (core: 99.2% zinc, 0.8% copper; plating: pure copper)

Are you gonna make 180-hole perferated plates with a .005" diameter drill bit?!

This is awesome.
Had a freind that did specialty parts. His entire shop included major pieces of equipment. But all of the equipment was for miniature. Could fit the entire shop into a closet.
He landed a nice contract turning out hardware for a watch maker.

how about SS mesh for plates? while beyond my ability im sure u could work out the optimum mesh size easily enough.. could save a lot of small hole drilling, but you might enjoy the work ;)

am looking forward to a vid of it working :)

It has a 1/2 inch column with a 1/4 inch lyne arm. From there it has a removable coil made of 5/32 by .035 copper tube. I have run it on my stove , I will have to take a picture of it . I am going t get a miniature back pack burner for it pretty soon.

I'm going to do a flap plate tree, too much maths and work in doing perfs or bubble caps.

If you're thinking about doing perforated, let us know:
- the diameter of your plates
- the diameter of your downcomers
- the size of any threaded rod, if you're using it down the middle
- if downcomer cups will be on the plate or above...
- and the smallest drill bit that you can get a hold of

I love the dephlegmator, that's awesome!! (and very cute :shifty: )

Okay, so I punched these out on my iPhone last night, so if anyone picks up some errors please chime in and help me out :tired:

So with the details you gave me:
- 18mm plates
- 3/16" downcomers (4.7625mm)
- 1/4" cup (6.35mm)

And making these assumptions:
- 2mm rod through the center?
- 1/32" drill bit? (0.79375mm)

Results in these area calculations:
- Plates 1017.876mm^2
- Downcomers 71.25574mm^2
- Cup 126.6769mm^2
- Rod 12.5664mm^2
- Drill bit 1.979mm^2

So to calculate the free space left on the plate = Plate are - dc's area - cup area - rod area.

Plate space = 807.377mm^2

Aiming for 8% optimal wet plate surface area = 64.59mm^2

which equals 32.64 holes round to 32 holes (for a 1/32" drill bit).

I worked out roughly that you should squeeze those in if you draw up a 2.5mm grid pattern, and place the holes around the fixtures already on each plate. I gave it a very quick mock up drawing to see if you would get around 32 holes and it worked alright

Impressive Brendan, well done  . Lots of broken drill bits there haha. Would be pretty cool to try, I don't have the patients though lol. Thanks tap.

Got the deflag soldered in today, insane how small everything is, dunno how I did it lol.

Just buy a $5 cobalt bit, you'll only need one...

I know you mentioned flap plate, but you could also go a single bubble cap using a 1/2" end cap...

1/2" is to big, with the flap plate I can use any size hole in any area of the plate and it will work, don't have to worry about hole size disrupting holding a bath

One like.corene did would be perfect for that heartcut  never really thought about output lwcs, it's not much smaller than 1" and 1" can have a good output. I'm more.curious to see what ABV it'll do, if it works that is  . Lol cooker, That would be some challenging tiging stainless lol.
