I have a question, and may need to post elsewhere to get the proper attention, but...

Imagine a column with the valve near the top, or just look at the pic above if you are imaginary challenged.
Now then, the valve will be up high and the warm/hot product will be trickle ing out of said valve. Imagine further that a small Liebig condenser/cooler is in line with the column below the valve.
The copper and surrounding water would have some weight, and the whole assembly would be cumbersome for disassembly and storage. The Liebig could be attached to the column for stability, but how would it be disassembled? The "head" could be removed as one piece, but the take off to Liebig connection would be,... Connected. Solder doesn't disconnect too easily and disassembling the valve connection each time would suck.

So here is my thought, drips from the take off tube are directed into the Liebig in open space. Like one would do with a parrot.

Does any of this make sense? Perhaps I could sketch what I'm talking about and post it

The issue I may run into is as I separate the couplings I will need to use some twisting or mild side to side force, that could jack up the small diameter copper.

I have a compression fitiing on my takeoff. Put on and removed a dozen times in the last year, maybe more. Brass ferrule
I don't have a liebig on my column yet but its in the works, mine will be hung from the valve. You only need a short one, I don't think the weight will be an issue

And now dear friends, gaze at the wonder that is the inner workings. As you can see I put the thermometer on the side, and the solder did flow. But best of all... The annealed tip bent like butter. And for any that choose to follow this plan do NOT forget to anneal that part or you shall be screwed.

Nice work Doc sorry if this is late but I just read this thread and I noticed the tab on the lower take off plate looks to be bent upward if the pic is looking up. It would still work but would defeat the purpose of the tab as a centering plate. May be trick photo but thought Id throw it at you in case it is not refluxing fully.

Belly buster - hang from the valve!?! You must be pooping me? That seems so weak to do that.
Ac fix - I assure you it is pointed down, little choice as it was only accessible from below after assembly. I guess I could have screwed it up, but didn't.

Two methods actually...Both ways I hang a liebig plus a parrot which is all suspended at the takeoff from the head. The Liebig is grossly overweight beacuse I used thick pipe and 1" over 1/2" instead of 3/4" over 1/2". With water in it and a full parrot we are talking a little over ten pounds or more.

Moral of the story is that my takeoff junk, despite being heavy, is very sturdy and does not need to be supported with a tripod or from the column.

Ok, this is real time so forgive the lack of precision
Notes on cleaning run
Cleaning run
1 gal water, 750ml wash just because it was there, 500 ml fores or early heads, seemed good for a sacrificial run
Equalized at 174.2-4 seems a SLIGHT Vapor puff
5-10 min, still at 174, output water around 110f
20 min, boredom takes over and the valve is cracked temp sitting at 173.8f
Drips counted 2/sec
Temp fluctuates about .1f up and down
I should note real time, it's 1:44 temp sits at 173.7 , outside temp warm, like 82f
Slightly breezy, not wind. Stlii haven't collected 100ml. This is not a sport for the ADHD among us.
1:57, still bored, 173.9f, playing with my mad scientist glassware tested proof- 182 wtf?

All vapor is gone by the way, I chalk it up to getting stabilized, and have zero reason to believe that.
Ok 2:10, still bored, I'm turning up the out put... 10 drips 3.75 sec.
I'm i to stand and stare at this thing? I want my burner back, I have some wash to run.

Temp dropping, why? Out of propane! Wait, now it's going up?
2:22, 174.6, close valve and wait
Stable at 174.4, open valve, drip rate... 10 drips, under 3 sec.
2:32, temp spiked to 181, shut valve, stabilize
This must be tails, or not, 184 -185, fairly quick drip.
2:38 up to 190 but all over the place.
2:46 temp holding at, ok that's not true, 207- 200, yes that's backwards
Coming off hot, to be expected, around 100 proof, but that's measured at 110f I suppose I would keep collecting.
Ok I'm bored, it is now 2:57, I'm going to keep going a bit if only to run out my propane, temp 208-209, smells like wet, something? Dog, cardboard? Feet?
How much do I lose if the product steams? I collected about the same as I put in. But as many times as I transferred from one container to the next with a drip here or there I guess it makes sense. I know strait water stabilizes at 210 on my thermometer so 208 must have something?
Ok 3:05 I'm done, this is a waste to continue, and I have other things to do. I think I have the general idea, I need to make something I can consume.

I thought he ended up with a new copper one. It don't look like a DAD300 Special sticking out the top.

I do have a copper one, I ended up returning the ss dad special. And I feel better about my coil, it seems to do the trick. Anthony at Rainer distillers was extremely gratuitous, apologetic, and timely in his response. The first coil didn't exactly blow me away but his customer service did!

Well I'm glad Rainer made it right for you. Good to hear about good customer service even if it was bogus to send you what he did the first time. Your DAD300 Special looked fine by the way and would have done a bang up job.

I know his work. Anthony delivered me a small part in person to my house for no additional cost. He is a cool cat but not all that knowledgeable about synthetics and safety. (Odd for a guy that does seminars) He also sent me keg connection kit that leaked at the joint on my second transaction with him. It's in a junk pile now with several dents in it.

I'm thinking he probably has a hand in the shop that doesn't do very good work. I wasn't all that impressed with the service either from the lady who runs the books.
