TP Can you specify where you get these. This would be so much easier than wrapping in PTFE Tape.TP Wrote
Mine are PTFE. You can get them at brew shops or other sources.

The gap is horizontally between the glass and the stainless. The silicone is thick there and keeps it centered. I think cutting the silicone so it only went around the outside (where it doesn't touch the vapor) would work fine. I myself went the wrapping route for my 4" one. I used a high quality thick PTFE tape and made multiple wraps.choppinlow wrote:You just needed to adjust the nuts/bolts to reduce the height.rgreen2002 wrote: Because of the big gap between the glass and the housing I had to use the silicone gasket....

Correct... the gap is between the stainless and the glass. The picture didn't do it justice.
There is just a very small surface of the taped PTFE that sits between the gasket and glass after tightening the bolts down that is exposed to the product.
Ive so far been unsuccessful in sourcing PTFE gaskets that will fit into here...
The gasket sort of looks like this (without the PTFE ball...)
..but I have no idea what the shape would be called. Any ideas?

TP says he got them at Grainger or McMaster Carr. I have looked and have been so far unsuccessful in finding them there.
I will fully disclose source if I find them as I am also actively searching other sources.

I've sourced some PTFE gaskets from these outfits. They are good quality.

Yeah..I checked all over Grainger or McMaster Carr...I found nothing either unfortunately. Thanks WIski.
The first place I looked was glacier...they're great. Unfortunately they don't have any either. The links above are for triclamp/ferrule gaskets and this gasket is not that. That being said, I plan to take the glass apart again soon and I will try to see how one of my extra 2" PTFE triclamp gaskets fits. Will keep everyone in the loop on results of this and my continuing search for this damn gasket.Euphoria wrote:I've sourced some PTFE gaskets from these outfits. They are good quality.

Still don't know what to call the thing... that would probably make it easier.

Keep in mind you can probably cut about 5 seals per small sheet. The value sheet are like $35/ea
Well, that.... and I could get excess ptfe foam sheeting from my old job for free.
