I love this forum, I get to learn how other people build things from the safety of my keyboard.
Here's one more look at the dephleg from a different angle before I put this part of the build to rest and move on to the next. http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 50&t=58012
Looks like it's in a hurry to get some were
I'm currently working on an all-copper dephleg and have the same issue with welding copper. Without back-purging the inside, every time I try to fix pinholes I just boil more oxide up from the inside to the surface. My plan is to test the cylinder for leaks.. if I don't have any lucky me, I'll weld the plates and solder the inner pipes. If I have leaks, I solder the inside of the weld to fill them, then solder everything else onto the thing.

I wound up welding everything but the tubes, those I silver soldered.
I may be wrong, but backpurging isn't needed for welding copper
I noticed a lot of black sooty oxidation on the inside surface of the pipe when I welded, so I'm assuming purging that area of oxygen would help keep it from oxidizing. I think a lot of the contamination I got was from that. A pro buddy suggested backing the section with a heat sink like aluminum, which would help avoid pushing the liquid puddle through to the other side. I'd also say helium would probably help since copper sucks so much power, but I opted to not buy anything else! The copper fittings were expensive enough as-is.

No need to buy big fittings if Ya have scrap copper and a tig welder
On a side note. After all this work I found out.
Using coiled tubing to make a drop in dephleg is easier, cheaper and better
Than making a shotgun dephleg

Not sure I totally agree with that full statement as my shotgun condenser is a lot sturdier than my condenser coil. Many members have kinked a lot of coils trying to wind them although for me the coil was easier to build and cheaper.
My buddy has a metal lathe so guess at least theoretically I could make my own copper ferrules. Just that time = money thing and where xyz falls on the spectrum. If you did a 4” dephleg with a coil, what kind of coil are we talking? Double helix with a cold finger? 1/4” tubing?

Damn man! That's a lot of fabrication there. I might have to add a dimroth dephleg condenser to my build journey some day, I did really enjoy making one for my 2" boka.

@shadylane is the 1/2 tube from this build OD or ID?
It was 1/2" OD
Quoting myself to correct for a mistake.
The tubing is 1/2" ID
I also found a pic of Sassy here on the post I'd forgot about.
The best dog that ever owned me.
I could "think" about going outside to piss and she would go check if it was safe.
