Yeah, thinking seriously bout concrete out the front where the verandah bit is. Already have a lot of metres of concrete in my back yard i've poured over the last couplea years, and i'd really prefer a traditional timber type verandah deck. just don't think i have enough height ( only a couple of inches to play with) to keep the termites out of it.

Concretes looking easy and cheap, or i may pave it.

Apiccie of my new bench, grain beneath.

Image

From left to right.
Green bin full of cracked corn and the 2 drums in front of it, some whole wheat in the next green bin, then steam rolled barley, then 3 bins full of malt barley and a couple of drums full as well. The bags have sr barley and malt barley.

3 white 25litre buckets full of mollasses in amongst my spare kegs. BOP next to them. The keg on top is set up as a 50 litre storage for white dog. Then two bags of new barrel staves for oak sticks. Then another bin and another drum full of malt barley. Looking forward to using some more of this stuff especially the malt barley.

Carpet came up good, all i did was go to the carpet warehouse and they sent me to the skip out the back. Bit of dumpster diving and the wholesheds carpetted for free

Looks great, Punkin. I am envious of the amount of dedicated space you have for stillin related stuff. I have to reorganise the storeroom when I want to do a run, and my fermenters sit all over the house.

So when is the shed warming party?

Punkin, you dont have to state in your avatar that your northern oz, all of us in the south have to line our sheds with sizelation, it gets that fn cold in winter. Nice job. Thats a no muck around frame on that bench- way under capacity for whatever you do on it

Gets cold here too mate.. Snows on the hills around rarely in town though we have good crispy frosts and get down to minus 4 or 6 most winters and lower again every now and again.

I'll just have to rug up

Punkin, If you can put that shed warming party off until around August or September, I should be passing through about then, so I could make myself available if you needed to build up the numbers.
Cheers

Mighty Fine Hooch making shop there Punkin. Just need your satellite radio and fat lazy boy to kick back in! When you hooking the hydraulic lines up to that monster lift there? Buddy of mine uses them for craning engines and tranys out of huge diesel skids, dozer's. Gonna make life a lot easier!

when I get this still up and going I can see a few ideas of my own. I have a little work shop not as nice as yours there but I have a Mighty fine view over looking a Huge dairy farm with the Good Ole Blue Ridge Mountains in the back ground.

Time for an update i guess...

Image

Shed is coming along nicely, i've finnished the build on my liquor cabinet, just gotta weld up the doors and design the locks.
It's 1.5m x 1m x 2.4m high (5' x 3.5' x 8') has a large shelf at the bottom to hold kegs ect, two identical shelves above that designed to each hold two 50litre barrels and two 25 litre barrels and a storage shelf above it to hold bottles, flagons and gallon jars.

Image

Got the Fridgemate controller and the heat lamp in yesterday. Figuring out the programming was a little tricky for a dumb hick, but i think i have it running fairly well now, the light is a stainless bainmarie heater with a 275 watt globe. The fridgemate is mounted in the box in the fridge and ticking along here at 31 degrees C.

Image

Image

The workbench is finnished, messy, but finnished, you can also see from the bars on the window that i have taken security fairly seriously. With storage of 65% spirits i couldn't have it on my conscience if kids got into the shed, let alone crooks stealing my hardwon craft.

Image

Didn't take a piccie of the washbay, will do that next time.

Please excuse the blurry photos, don't know why it's done that.

Nice work Punkin :D

I've got a fridgemate controller too - use it mostly for my lager fermenting fridge. They are a nice unit. That 3 door fridge looks a beauty - shame to hide it away in a barred up shed like that though :?

There is nothing like a well organised work space to enjoy the job. Cheers, and enjoy playing in the shed, and thanks for sharing.

Any new updates on the shed/setup/products/etc.?

I'm envious and one day hope to post pictures of my setup in the future. I'd love to have a dedicated shop with all the bells and whistles.

Thanks for all the pics--we are all hungry for more and more pictures/information/updates!?

Gettin towards the last update now, the sheds all but complete with the installation of the doors and locks on my liquor cabinet.

Just a bit of shelving to go round the shed here and there and all done.

Image

There's a fair bit of detail in this poor photo for those inclined to look. Notice the bits of rhs welded on the top outside corners to stop any wouldbe robbers jacking the doors off the hinges

Had an extheif help with the design

My two barrells are lodged in their new home, one 50 litre with UJSM and a 25l with corn and malt barley ujsm.

Looking forward to figuring out the mashing process for corn properly so i can order another 25l barrell for an all grain rest. 8)

A beeping alarm system (kinda like a door chime, just with the motion sensor) is about the most useful addition. Set the chime in the house and the motion sensor at the door (like in a quickie mart) and then you can hear when someone is going in without you knowing. Also works the other way around so you don't get caught by a neighbor wanting a cup of hooch...I mean sugar :D

Thanks guys, i know it may seem excessive, but i think of it like a fence around the pool.
Imagine how you'd feel (and what would happen) if a bunch of neighbourhood kids broke into your stash while you were away.

I've got 65% hooch there.....and it's very drinkable, even a tough kid could guzzle enough to do serious damage.

I know there's now way to keep the serious crooks out, i just have to make it so everythings a hassle, and everything they might wanna get into is noisy and just plain hard.

Not worth much my little stash, but priceless to me.

Apologies to those who've seen this pic in minimees (and my) VM build thread, but i wanted to stick a pic of the hot end of my shed in here...

This is while installing the VM still, i have a couple more things to do, including building a brace for the new liebig to hold the weight and keep the head straight, insulation to install, the electric controller and a power point behind the pot still, the eprovette needs a stand...etc etc...
