As someone once said, it's a hand hold not a handle. You still need to support the carboy from the bottom. For pouring and cleaning, I wouldn't be without them.

I also use milk crates for empty storage and these Brew Hauler straps. I only have 3 glass carboys, so I leave the straps on all the time. They work really good.

These are great for moving carboys, if a little dear on the pocket book. I'd still want the handle as the positive connection provides a lot of stability when pouring and cleaning. That said, I'd go stainless if better options were available.

I put duct tape bands, vertical and horizontal, around mine with minimal gaps between them. The idea is if there was a problem it would minimize glass flying around. I am in the process of moving over to 5 gallon SS kegs for low wine storage.
