Re: Finally got around to completing my dual keg to shotgun rig...
I run very thick slop in my thump. It is a PITA to dump, Chauncey is spot on waiting for a 6 inch opening. I tip the half full keg over, place 2 bricks under it to elevate sanke. If im lucky it flows well, but usually i have to rock the keg till some of the thick slop is out. Wild turkeys in my area feed on the spent grains.seabass wrote:I still haven't done an on grain strip with the thumper setup. I am also curious about how people are emptying them. I have some eye hooks on my basement rafters and a game hoist for lifting full kegs. I'm thinking I'll hoist it on a table and tip it over to dump in a bucket. I'm not sure how willing the slop will be to drain from the 2 inch hole though.jonnys_spirit wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 1:18 pm Oh cool. I'm thinking more in an AG (bourbon/corn/wheat/barley mash) Mash/Ferment/Strip on the grain kinda situation where the thumper is charged with the mash/grain and the boiler gets the cleared wash... I wouldn't want to dump that thick gooey mess down my drain and it would probably clog up a thumper drain port unless it was a good 2"... Just thinking out loud..

I've got milk cans with 8" openings on the tops (16gallon and 13gallon) so that'll work... I was hoping I could come up with a way to keep it upright so I could empty the slop into a bucket whilst hot and strip twice in a day... I'm thinking it takes a while to cool it down? How much low wines you get off a strip like that? Maybe change the recipe up for closer to 1.5#/gallon would help too?

Great write up...
What level do you fill each keg up to prior to starting?

Re: Finally got around to completing my dual keg to shotgun rig...
I have another thread with my experiences finding the max fill level. I'd usually do around 12 or 13 gal in the main and 10 to 11gal in the thumper. 2 strip runs with a charge like that would generally give me 12 or more gal low wines for the spirit run.
Spirit run give me about 5 gal of finished product after cuts and dilution to ~80 or 90p, approx 10% of the total amount of wash stripped. Ymmv.
