I've been using it for a while now, it is holding up just fine. I did end up making my own riser/column and leibig condenser for it, but it worked OK as is. The stainless seems to be 304, no rust or corrosion issues, the bottom is thick and heats evenly. I'm sure there's many other options, cheaper, better, etc. All I can say is it does work.

It does not comply with the "no silicone" rule so you will have to deal with that as you see fit.
Newbie Here. Bought this exact model, just to see if this is for me. Have a nice sugar wash fermenting for rum right now. First shot out.

I'm curious about 2 things you said:

Column modification? I haven't done the math, but the column seems short to me. Was looking at extensions.

No silicone rule? I'm aware you're referring to the gaskets. Care to elaborate on substitutions?

I'm sure I'll find this stuff eventually by searching, but I was web browsing the subject, and joined the forum just because this particular post caught my attention..

Thanks!

Chuck
the football thang does work honestly but it's just a riser, or maybe an "onion" of a sort it's not going to do much to bump the proof, throw away the ceramic balls if they're still telling you to use them and throw in some copper mesh...

I made a 3 ft H x 2.5"W copper riser, also a 4ft stainless, I can hit 93 percent with the 3ft using a 2.5" w stainless steel dephlegmator from aliexpress column packed with copper mesh. I don't do that though - i just use it as a pot still and double distill all grain mashes, I have 200 lbs of malted barley staring at me ATM telling me to get motivated hehehe

as far as the silicon goes ... well I'm sure you could make some kind of teflon tape gasket or something for the boiler lid ... i can't say "just use the silicon one" ... and teflon ones are available in the weird 2.5" triclamp size for the rest of the seals if so desired. it is still holding up, no rust issues at all and honestly I already have enough booze aging to last me years. I recently upgraded my stripping still to an "unauthorized" capacity lol so it's just gunna be a once a year run if that and I'll still be giving gallons away lol.

Thank you. I’m actually not looking to maximize abv right now. I’m making rum, and prefer the retain flavor and character, rather than a neutral spirit.

For its first run, I’m just gonna run’er. Come what may. I’ll insulate the riser, but that’s about it. If I decide on changes, they will be a bit more wholesale than simply gaskets. We’ll see.
