I want to express my appreciation and thank the veterans all who have helped me with these questions. I have some way to go to learn to solder the copper parts of the Liebig but I have already found the pages for that and have practiced with uncleaned pieces only to discover that oxidation is a block and some serious cleaning is due. I am daunted more by the availability of copper parts despite asking at all the readily accessible hardware stores, visiting the local scrap yards (and left the girls there with good tips that make big smiles, asking them to look out for 2” pipe) which has provided me so far with half of the column that I will need and some wire which isn’t thick enough to make a EZ flange nor do they have that at the hardware stores in my region. I might have to buy the rest of the 2” pipe but I have purchased and received 7 2” triclamps and PTFE gaskets from still dragon as well as a 200mm ss pipe that connects to the keg, in addition to a 2” T and a 90° bend, all ss. I was not aware when I ordered these that I wouldn’t easily (so far) find a way of building a 2”>18mm reducer and I still don’t know if a 2”>3/4” reducer will work for 2”>18mm but I may buy such a reducer ready for triclamp fittings.

I’m discovering that things aren’t available despite extensive searching but I won’t give up. I find only brass connectors and reducers locally so I will resort to ss if I don’t find copper pieces at affordable prices. If I had to source all copper pieces at the going prices of freshly manufactured goods then I would prefer to go ss. I am trying to avoid this. Maybe we can now say ‘back in the day’. I don’t know yet. You veterans have eyes for finding things I so far can’t find. But undoubtedly the availability of copper for hobby uses like these is not what it used to be.
