Yep and in my part it's flavor.

I do, I'll use the proper spelling or the American quite happily.

when you do this wash Jesse, what colour is the wash? do you ever keep temperature charts on the vapour?

Have you ever seen your spouse trounce on a mouse that pounced on a grouse? Was she lounging in a blouse in the house before she put a few ounces on the mouse?

just a thought, but i guess that's enough ou words.

Some what off topic but anyway.
If the plural of house is houses and the plural of mouse is mice, why shouldn't mice be mouses and why shouldn't houses be hice?
Don't matter where your sitting or how ya look at it the English language is a strange thing.

And the plural of spouse should be spice?

Then there was the time I delivered bread to the hospital kitchen.

A mouse ran along the bench top and quick as a flash I flattened him with a pound of butter.

Hi guys. I am planning to start a UJSSM as soon as I finish my pot still build. I was wondering, since I will have a new still to clean, if after running vinegar wash for cleaning I could run the 1st generation of UJSSM as sacrificial run and use the backsets to sour the 2nd generation? I mention that only the still is new, the pot is a 50 liter electric pot that I also use to brew beer, so it does not need cleaning. I have to clean only the freshly soldered copper still.

Also, does anybody use a pot still with thumper for UJSSM single runs? If yes, could you tell us a little bit about the ABV's you get from a single run?

The backset from the sacrificial run will be full of the crap just cleaned. So no

Doesn't the crap get carried away by the steam? I repeat, the crap would be only in the copper riser, arm and condenser. The pot is stainless and has been used many times... Does the crap fell down in the pot or something?

Yes there is passive reflex in the pot. Not going to argue it, it is a sacrificial run. You asked. I answered. As with all things you can do what you want.

I really appreciate your answer, I did not think at that. Will definetly do a simple sugar wash for the sacrificial.

Cosminman, I do a 7 gallon pot (filled to 6), W/ thumper for my UJSSM runs. With using 1.25 qt of heads and tails from a previous run and adding another pint of water in my 3 gallon thumper, after culling the 1st pint in 2, 1/2 pint jars, I start collection with approximately 3 pints of 150, 4th is approx 145,and the 5th is 135-140, then I run down to 90 on the last 2 or sometimes 3 pints. The 1st, last and the second half of the foreshot collection are what go into my thumper for the next run. I know I seem to collect too much foreshot liquid, but hey, it works for me. Also, run it slowly, 1/2 a pencil lead stream. It's never exactly the same each time, but close enough to share with certainty.

Thanks :). How many hours does it take you to run 6 gal?

Tried my third run and first with a pot still. Ran my first run of UJSSM first generation it started at 120p I collected down to 80p, not a bad flavor. I know I am doing something wrong, am I too hot? I have a 1500w electric burner I am waiting for a controller to arrive. 5 gall pot with 3.5-gallon washes. Thanks

120 is right for a straight pot still. I'm running my thumper with a high ABV so the re steaming is picking up more alcohol which creates a higher proof output.

ok, I was concerned as in the original post it said to start at 160 (80) and stop at 120 (60).One other observation it seemed to take a lot longer to get to temp than a sugar wash.

hi my first post just joined just wondering if I've messed up I did this recipe but alterd it slightly I put poultry corn in when I Googled it.
it said it was 50 corn maize and 50% wheat will this work?
And when I checked the sg it was 1085 and today 20hrs later it reads 1095 I don't normally check it until about 6/7 dates later but I was just curious is it because of the wheat it has risen or is it just me and some how got my readings wrong but I'm sure they where pretty accurate thanks any info will be greatly appreciated

What????

The gravity went UP? That doesn’t happen unless the tmperature went DOWN significantly. Was it hot yesterday when you checked it? Is it close to freezing today?

Or....you’ve been drinking when measuring....

Haha allways drinking but the temp is exactly the same as yesterday slowly bubbling along been making tpw for about 5 month now and never as it gone up.
but in my ujssm there is a lot of wheat/corn fizzing at the top it might be effecting the reading apart from that I'm pretty confused thanks

Put a fine strainer over the top of a small measuring cup insert them into your wash and remove the liquid that way, very few solids will get in the liquid

thanks jedneck I've just checked again making sure to use a trail jar and getting minimum solids in there and the reading is 1070 so I'm guessing you're spot on about the solids

No problem....after doing it wrong a dozen or so times, you'd have come up with the idea yourself (been there LOL).
