I hope you guys are taking warning on what needs to be fixed with these stills to make them safe. So when you get them you can fix them.

Personally, I'd cancel any order through bootleggers simply because their thinking isn't in line with our core beliefs here... Not to mention what appears to be bad designs and shoddy craftsmanship...

I ordered from Bootleggerstills.com before I saw this thread. I got pretty worried after reading some of this. I called "Big Mike" after about 2 weeks from when I ordered. I left a voicemail telling him that I hadn't heard anything and I was getting ready to dispute my paypal charges if I didn't hear back. He called me back about 10 mins later giving me a lot of excuses. I was pretty easy going about the whole thing and decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. I ordered on Jan 14, and received the still today Feb 7. I have only done a cleaning run and a water run so far, but I have something in the fermenter that is about done (I think). I'm pretty happy with this still. It is a bit cheap looking, but seems to work just fine. It is a good starting still for me. Maybe I'll make my own one of these days once I get the hang of it, but I'm happy with this still.
I just wanted to post this for people who may have been worried about this website being another rip-off website. Just don't be in a hurry to get it in the mail, gotta be patient.

Did you have any leaking problems around the flange on the lid? I did a water run last night want water was coming up through the screws

rastagolf, which spectacular model did you purchase...??? Virtually every one of them requires a bit of work to make them safe... Don't consider yourself lucky just yet...

Rasta,
I encourage you to heed the advice of the veterans like rad around here. They just want you do things
safely.
Nothing but stainless steel and/or copper should come into contact with your distillate. No aluminum at all. No rubber of plastic gaskets at all. Remember, you get what you pay for. Good Luck AW

Had final contact with bootleggerstills today went to PayPal for a 20 dollar refund as I had yet to get my water pump for my still they counter offered 8.99 said I was gold digging and told me to have a great day and they would fight this to the end, I countered back with 14.99 to purchase a pump and I would take the extra hit on shipping, they accepted the offer and then told me to basicly F off what great customer service. Don't buy from them please...save yourself the hassle

Well shommer 75, this is a real bunch of winners you are dealing with, (sadly I speak from experiance) I never could get all the leaks stopped in mine, I was able to rework it and have a usable still in the end, but hell in hind sight I could have built it my self, which is what it ended up being anyhow for a quarter of the price. Real fine bunch, bet they are on the top of the BBB list

Glad you got it working ohiosteeler, but those guys don't make a thumper at all so it wouldn't matter if you got a single or a double "jar" you didn't get a thumper, did you bypass that junk? doing that will eliminate a bunch of the leaks.

Just watch out for those leaks, especially if you use an open flame "propane" like I do for heat.

@ wildman1983,
Your Bootleggerstills Still will
NOT run “Alright” when you get it.
Reviewing your Home Distiller postings you are focused on receiving your Bootleggerstills Still and unfortunately overlooking or ignoring the fact that Bootleggerstills Stills are dangerous products and the alcohol sprit product produced in these Stills is not safe for human consumption.
Suggest reviewing The Rules By Which We Live item #8 - usage of plastics/synthetics in distilling ->
http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... =35&t=5090
Throughout the Bootleggerstills Stills plastic/synthetic gaskets, seals, grommets, and O-rings and other plastic/synthetic components are used which results in dangerous toxic compounds being leached into the alcohol sprit product. This makes the alcohol sprit product produced in these Stills unsafe for human consumption. They also use brass fittings that leach dangerous lead into the alcohol sprit product.
Strongly suggest that you Closely review
ALL the Forum postings concerning Bootleggerstills and be fully aware of the dangers of Bootleggerstills Stills.
If you do through research at the Home Distiller Forum on the Bootleggerstills Stills you will find to make a Bootleggerstills Still safe to produce a safe drinkable alcohol sprit product will require extensive disassembling, re-engineering the Still design, and reassembling using known proven safe components. Failure to do so and attempting to distill an alcohol sprit product in a stock unmodified Bootleggerstills Still will result in producing a dangerous unsafe alcohol sprit product.
Regards,
Coaster

Many use brass fittings in building stills. You should pickle them to remove any surface lead. This will need to be done from time to time.

That's a bummer! Also planned to grab my still from this shop, not until I came across the discussions in this site about them. Screw these stilldrinkin guys! Better ads but have no good to offer.

Nice PVC "carbon filter system" they offer.
These clowns care nothing about quality, health, safety or honesty.

That's what these crooks do. Take a bunch of peoples money. Or get in trouble somehow. Then close up shop and start a new one under a different name.
