This has got me thinking...can one ferment horse shit?

Like I've heard of guys pissing in their ferments for urea, since horses only digest about 20% of what they eat, theres a whole lotta goodness left in them horse poo grains.

And Mr Ed has already added some enzymes....

I got nothing against folk pissing in their fermenters if they want , but urea is banned in most countries as a nutrient.

I asked this question on another forum and this was the best response;

I'm not sure if the croweater or rad has an opinion on urea, but if they do I'd like to hear it, cos I think horse shit whiskey could be an undervalued resource.

Back to names for sweetfeed, cob, wet or otherwise,..got schooled today by the sweetest looking counter gal at our local feed store. I asked for a bag of wet COB as I always have and got a blank look from the missy perched on her stool behind the counter. I followed up with the "corn oats barley with molasses" to help clarify. The lights came on, she brightened in understanding and she proceeded to ring me up, then she leaned over to clue this old guy in,.. "Its called Four Way" she says,.. "Corn, oats and barley with molasses. Just ask for that and no one will be confused". Im going back in next month and asking her for a four way and see if I can get slapped.

Just a quick query. When you guys talk about COB, corn oats and barley, is the barley malted or not? Was wondering, 'cos unmalted barley is not supposed to taste as good as malted, even if you don't convert the malted stuff.

Unmalted. Some places call it all grain horse and mule feed and you can get it with or without molasses. Some stores also call it all grain sweet treat.

When you buy it at the feed store the barley is not malted , but when I make my own C O B I use malted barley , & yes I think it tastes better when the barley is malted . YMMV

You could mix up your own if you wanted and use malted barley if that is your preference. But since Sweet Feed Whiskey is a sugar head not really worth it. Unmalted grains are a bit more earthy flavours to me.. none are bad.. just need the right balance. Some malt normally improves the flavour.. I think 1/2 and 1/2 woudl be perfect.

Mind you if using malt why not do an all grain Sweet Feed? Do a mash and convert all the grains with malt? It will taste better than a sugar head.
