Thanks guys. I probably should have built this thing to make sure it would fit in a bucket.. I have nothing it will fit in right now. If I was to narrow it by an inch or two It would probably fit in a 5 gallon bucket. I don't think it would affect the performance of the unit at all either. May do that.

This thread has a little bit of age to it and is very informative so I thought I'd rise it to the top again since I'm looking into steam mashing to ease my pain of the process.

From what I've read in this thread there doesn't seem to be any bad reviews other than he couldn't fit it into a 5 gal bucket to clean some scale off. NO BIGGIE

The ss braided lines seems to be the best point here since they have no way of clogging and he mentioned using less wouldn't hurt but I see that if less would work the way he originally did it is better just because things happen and I for one don't want uncle Murphy coming knocking.

I think I'll go with a ball valve on the upper end mid way with a cork (natural) at the top to vent or a pressure relief valve.

Just thought I'd post this up again so anyone looking will easily find it.

Built my steam injector as a single loop, it worked fantastic - never cooking corn over a burner again! I made loop of 3/8" copper, cut slits across the bottom third of the pipe every 3/8" or so, then pulled the SS mesh around it and clamped it in place to the Tee with copper wire. I can stir through the middle while it's warming up - once it's boiling it takes care of itself.

Steam injection is great, no scorching and fast heating !
I used my wife steam iron, a professional grade one, to test steam injection for maintaining temperature in the mash tun and temperature steps.
Good points were that it was working great, bad point is that the water tank was too little for my needs.
I already had a HERMS module so I never built a bigger steam generator.

Did someone tried to generate steam a la expresso coffee machines ? Continuous steam generation ?
