Getting back to normal but after the holidays she goes in for hip surgery, should be a normal procedure and my only duties is taking care of her through recovery. The scary one is past us.NorthWoodsAb wrote: ↑Sun Dec 19, 2021 12:06 pm I just found this thread, a little late to the party as usual, best wishes to Mrs' Cranky and Bushman for full and speedy recovery. To Cranky and Bush you guys went beyond the call of duty. Fortunately few can appreciate how draining and demanding caring for a sick spouse really is. Kudos to you both. Now you can relax a bit, have a dram and get back to normal life with your wives. Just in time for Xmas.

Re: Mrs Cranky is having some issues
I've been holding off on passing on info lately, afraid it might jinx the whole thing or something
but the other day we finally got a surgery date. Dec 27th.
In preparation for this Mrs Cranky had 2 final appointments scheduled for last Friday with one of the surgeons and another for pre surgery tests...then 3 days before the appointments she started feeling bad. By Friday she obviously had a bad cold and had to postpone the appointments. You would have thought she told them she came down with the ebola or the plague
"Oh no, we can't reschedule if you have COVID symptoms!!!! You have to pass a covid test before we can even consider a date."
So Mrs Cranky says "I have a rapid test here at home I'll take that and we will know in 20 minutes"
"Oh no! You have to come down to the hospital and take our test!!! A rapid test or any test at any location other than at our hospital isn't good enough"
So I take her down on Friday afternoon and they give her the self administered test and say she'll have results in a few days.
Today we got the results...common cold, just like we thought so the surgeries can proceed as long as the 2nd surgeon can squeeze her in for the final pre surgery consult.

Covid has been a nightmare for many who have been bumped from getting critical care because of protocol. Don't want to say any more than that.

Good luck to Mr and Mrs Cranky. In the end, the paperwork may be more stress than the surgery. Fingers crossed that nothing has to be rescheduled.

Re: Mrs Cranky is having some issues
You know how the other day I said
which puts it into next year and further complicates things tremendously.
So the next time I post might be after the surgery has actually taken place. Please keep the good thoughts coming. Thank you.
Well... Today was a big snowstorm and here near Seattle a light dusting shuts the whole place down. I was concerned that might cause a problem but was optimistic... Then the oncologist called this morning...You know before you even answer the phone that a surgeon personally calling you on a Sunday morning isn't a good thing... she has a cold and the surgery has to be postponed...again

So the next time I post might be after the surgery has actually taken place. Please keep the good thoughts coming. Thank you.

Re: Mrs Cranky is having some issues
Well we got a new surgery date of Jan 10th but...
I've been trying to isolate at work as much as possible because people on another shift have been coming down with Covid and I didn't want to catch it and cause the surgery to be postponed yet again. Then someone on my shift that I often work closely with tested positive and this morning I woke up with a headache, sore throat, feeling warm and stuffy nose. It's very similar to the cold I had a few weeks ago but I shouldn't be getting a cold so close to already getting over one so before going to work I did a rapid test and sure enough the results were positive. So it's likely the surgery will be put off again and Mrs Cranky isn't really doing well

Dang it Cranky! What a drag and I am very sorry to hear it. Stay away from Mrs C if you can and as long as she tests OK on the day before or whatever they insist on maybe she can make the 10th. Good luck!!!!

Thank you for all the nice thoughts and words everyone.
It may not be realistic but we are still hoping for surgery on Monday. Of course that relies on us getting over the covid and testing negative withing 3 days of the surgery so the covid test will be scheduled as late as possible.

For shits sake! Is the cure worse than the disease? Your wife obviously needs medical attention. I’m glad I don’t have to make these decisions, either from your perspective or that of the Dr’s. I know if I was a Dr I’d say fuck it. We’re going to help this woman Covid or not.

It really sucks and is taking it's toll on both of us but we have hopes the surgeons can reschedule quickly. At least she shouldn't have to worry about catching covid in the hospital.

My wife’s surgery was also postponed and has to go back in on the 10th for new tests. We have Hawaii scheduled for a month in March and April and if they don’t do this surgery I think we will have to cancel.

Re: Mrs Cranky is having some issues
Stonecutter, the concern is not that Mrs Cranky will have a bad surgical outcome due to covid. The concern is that one Omicron patient infects on average 3-5 additional people. Mrs Cranky could infect multiple surgical members. Though fully vaccinated and not likely to get sick, they will have to quarantine and OR staffing shortages will affect everyone's surgery. At my hospital there is a shortage of floor nurses for this very reason. Any elective surgery requiring an overnight stay is currently postponed because we don't have staffing to care for those admitted. It's predicted that by April enough of us will have had Omicron that life will start returning to normal in the USA.Stonecutter wrote:For shits sake! Is the cure worse than the disease? Mrs Cranky, myself and our son are "fully vaccinated" at this time. 2nd Phizer shots were early September. This strain doesn't seem to care if you are vaccinated or not so the right thing to do was postpone the surgery.

Their decision to not perform a potentially life saving surgery is, on it’s face BS. y’all deserve better. As a retired 1st responder, I’m saying there are tens of thousands of us that risk our lives to save people. We always ran toward the sound of gunfire to save others. These bureaucrats have decided that they are more important, more deserving than Mrs C. Reminds me of those folks that allow medical euthanasia, but only if you’re vaccinated. Wouldn’t want you to be sick when they kill ya. May God have mercy on their souls.
Sorry if I sound abrupt but I’m in my cups and I don’t suffer fools lightly even in the best of time. Best wishes to you and the missus, and for a complete recovery.

Re: Mrs Cranky is having some issues
It's been a while since I've posted anything on this because I was afraid to jinx it but this whole long drawn out saga is finally coming to an end. I'd like to start by thanking everyone for their thoughts and prayers I believe it was a real help.
Yesterday morning Mrs Cranky was finally able to have her surgeries. Even the doctors were surprised how well they went. She was forced against her will to stay overnight. She had previously convinced the doctors to let her go the same day but with more hospital beds available they didn't think she was ready for that. They were right, she wasn't so reluctantly she agreed to stay and I was sent home. I will say hospital food has greatly improved...except the broths, that stuff was nasty
How do you burn broth???? I don't know but it certainly tasted burnt and we have been having some awesome broth at home lately which made it all the more bad.
Breakfast options are actually pretty good there but I had different plans. I made my special trade marked eggs benedict prior to leaving the house bright and early...ok maybe dark and early
certainly early
and wrapped it up so it would stay warm and showed up an hour before visiting hours, walked in like I owned the place, didn't check in with anybody and went straight to her room and we had breakfast together.
We had both slept very little through the night so after breakfast we spent most of our time talking and napping, because there was a recliner in her room for me
Any time a nurse came in Mrs Cranky was quick to let them know she was ready to go home and eventually the doctor came and agreed with her and this afternoon they released her.
She is home now, tired and sore but recovering very quickly. I know it's going to a long recovery but they got everything they needed to and all the bad parts are over and the healing has begun. So once again, thank you everybody
And Bushman, I've been meaning to ask for some time now how your wife is doing? Hope she is doing well
