Hi tech cooling - saving water during a drought?

You can buy a small submersible pump at Harbor Freight for $5.00 on sale. Run the water through a pipe with holes drilled in it over an old sheet or towel hung on a line. The evaporation will bring the temperature down quite a bit. You might even want to direct a fan on it. Let that drain back in your bucket.

What size reservoir, or what amount of water, do you use with the fan setup?decoy wrote:
i have been using one for a few years, works well keeps the water at 30-35c on a average day in Oz..
its a small refrigeration coil and fan, i was thinking about adding evaporative cooling but there was no need.

what if one just ran a pump and threw two hoses into a swimming pool ( assuming you have one) and re-circulating water through the condenser? perhaps with a stainless steel coil so pool clorine doesn't corrode it

Hehe, great idea. I do have a pool at my own place but not where I'm currently living now.
However, I've sorted out my system and it works a treat. I have a submersible pond pump in the bottom of a water filled 50 litre barrel and a condenser to cool it. The water pumps out of the barrel, through the column, through the condenser and back to the barrel...

My son designed a cooler for my Brewhaus high capacity unit that works well here in the heat of the deep south.
It is simply a condenser from an auto heater core with a small fan like the one in your computer pulling air thru the little condenser. He covered it with thin aluminum flashing from Home Depot, I'll try to post pictures soon althought i'm not good at that. He said that to cool the water it must pull air through the thing rather than blow it through, the difference according to him in that by pulling it creates a low pressure situation that creates a much better cooling enviornment. I don't know where he learned this but so far it works great. Where I was having to constantly add water to keep my condenser working properly now I just plug the little fan in and forget it, the water never gets warm.
Oh yes I use a plastic tote from wally world that holds maybe 6 gal. of water.
