Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
My brother is about 4 hours N.W. of Edmonton and when his car wouldn't start this morning he decided to bundle up ( everyone has proper cold weather gear up there ) and walk the 20 Minutes to an appointment....... afterwards could not even book a rideshare back to his place and ended up waiting about an hour for a taxi....

Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
We had a public alert about possible rolling power outages due to over demand on the power grid from extreme cold. I have never seen one of these before!
Sure hope it doesn’t happen and not for long. Break my heart to burn high test booze to warm the house!

Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
I got a call at 3:45 this afternoon about a busted water pipe in the lodge. I just got back at 8:00 from replacing the split elbow on the water feed to the water heaterR removing 12 batts of soaked insulation in the attic, and cleaning up all the water in the lobby, the kitchen, and the dining hall.
Why the hell they put the water heater in the attic is beyond me, and the fact that they didn't have any pipe wrap on the pipes really made me shake my head. I taught a few old dogs a new trick shoving bread in the pipes to keep the water out of the joints while sweating them. Now we get to look forward to the ceiling repairs.
My wife tells me when I walked in that the FB community pages are full of folks looking for plumbers to fix busted pipes.

Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
Something similar happened to my folks a few years back. Their house had these big, badly built dormer windows with flat roofs and almost no insulation. And running through them, outside the insulation, was a pair of pipes for the heating system. At some point they had some work done and got the insulation upgraded. Which meant that the pipes were no longer kept warm by lost heat from the house and froze. Nooooo. Just no. No more complaints about Texas Weather being cold. Maybe just weird:
Central Texas experienced its hottest summer on record in 2023. Austin saw a total of 80 days with 100-degree heat, 40 days with temperatures of 105 degrees or higher, and received less than 1.5 inches of rain from June through August.
Good rum makin weather, tho’

What is this so-called “snow”?

Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
It hasn't been above 0F for a couple days, wind chill warnings (-36 overnight), etc. It's so cold the snow isn't even sticking to cars, and a leaf blower is the superior snow shovel. Central Mexico looks better with every winter, and every summer that passes. But hey, we are going to have some highs in the 30's this week, might even hit 50 next weekend! Maybe ill do some sunbathing

Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
We've had an accumulation of freezing rain the last couple of days, about 2 inches. Today was 18F but no precipitation. I was going to do a striping run, but had to abort as I heard a gas leak from the propane tank connector valve. I'm hoping it was just from the cold, but I might have to replace the valve.

Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
We had -32C this night and something -20C right now (noontime). Not a big difference.
The big difference was between home/outdoors. Over 50 in centigrade.
Snow?.. Yupp, we are simply drowning in it this winter.

Yeah, once you hit a certain low, a few more degrees doesn't make any difference. But when the wind picks up it does!
100% chance of 4-6 inches here last night. Woke up to nothing. Weather forecasters are pretty good these days, but still often wrong.

Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
yup. We almost had the earliest spring. It was the first time in March I saw my flower garden. We got 28" over the weekend. And just like that, it's winter again. We have about 80 gal of maple sap sitting in 5 gal buckets under about 2' of snow.

Re: %&*($#%$ SNOW!!!!
Wow. 28" guess I got nothing to complain about. Our lake usually falls end of April. This year middle of March.its 4" thick again with ice. Garlic and flowers poking here too. Hopefully all is well. Good haul of syrup for you anyways. Always something to smile about

That's awesome you didn't get it. I was hoping this would blow north or south, but nope. We got another 10" after I cleared off my Jeep. We had our first robin March 13th. My Iris' were coming up. This just isn't right.Bradster68 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:14 pmWow. Iv escaped the last blast that came through this area. I actually picked some fresh juniper berries today. We just finished shoveling. When the snow falls off the roof, it lands on our deck and we have to shovel it. I feel your pain.
