Picked up a bottle of Blanton's yesterday. Just poured 4 fingers. Hands down best bourbon I've ever had. Damn that's something to aspire to.

I just cracked a barrel of 5 grain whiskey that's been sitting for a year. I also just opened a bottle of 23 year pappy van winkle.
I'm going to have a god drunk on this stuff.

Sitting amongst the rarest bourbons in the country, a collectors item, and gets mixed with coke... You must have showed great restraint.

That's all I do these days is show restrain, bourbon and coke is pretty far down the list of the stupid shit I deal with on a daily basis.Washashore wrote:Sitting amongst the rarest bourbons in the country, a collectors item, and gets mixed with coke... You must have showed great restraint.

I'm a small business owner so I know exactly where you are coming from. This topic has been discussed here before and I get the fact that people will drink it how they like it, and that this person enjoys this drink with coke. However, to me, it's like owning the Mona Lisa and painting a mustache on her because you think she'd look better with a mustache.

That sounds like something I'd do.....Washashore wrote:...it's like owning the Mona Lisa and painting a mustache on her because you think she'd look better with a mustache.
I feel like if you're going to mix something with coke, mix cheapish whisky in. As long as it's a decent whisky, I doubt you would even be able to differentiate between an expensive one. Most people I know can't even distinguish between a cheap or expensive bottle of liquor, and there's no shame in that, so they're not going to waste their money. Whatever though, on my list of fucked up things in this world, mixing expensive drinks with coke is pretty far down.
Whisky, gin, and most other expensive drinks remind me of my grandfather, so I mostly stick to rum and vodka anyway.
Experience is what you get right after you need it.

Um... You need to know better people!GuyFawkes wrote:Washashore wrote:... Most people I know can't even distinguish between a cheap or expensive bottle of liquor, and there's no shame in that,
And I'd be ashamed. I don't consider myself a snob... not by any means, but I personally enjoy things better when I know more about them.
It woudl be like paying $150 to go for steak and having your wife say... Tastes like McDonalds. Fine if you like a big mack... but fur christ sake buy the $4 burger instead of the $65 steak!

I don't know about you, but if my wife liked cheap steak over expensive ones, I would be completely ecstatic!RumBrewer wrote:It woudl be like paying $150 to go for steak and having your wife say... Tastes like McDonalds. Fine if you

And that would be precisely why I don't make or buy whisky, I make rum and vodka. I can tell you a good rum from a mile and I can sure appreciate the good stuff, but I still wouldn't spend over $50 for a handle, ever.

Re: What is everyone drinking?
Root beer (well made stuff, not the crap you buy at the grocery) and rum has to be another of my all time favorites. They just go together so well. A decent rum is important, but I actually found that my light brown sugar wash that was fairly heavily cut went amazing with these bottles of root beer my friend always brings me back whenever he goes on business (they're amazing..... can't remember the brand off my head though).

Re: What is everyone drinking?
Finally ran some of my white rum through a carbon filter I made out of a Keg Stem. It helped it out some, so I threw a couple of frozen blackberries in there to cool it off and it makes for a hell of a tasty drink.

Just a Grolsch beer right now. Had me two Leffe "brown" earlier. Maybe a freshly made barley based vodka to finish the evening with?

Going sailing with some friends this weekend and rum was requested. The skipper's wishes will be honored. Also Blackberry Merlot wine for his wife, from mine. Should be a good weekend.

My summer favorite: adult Arnold Palmer, mix lemonade with 80 proof neutral to taste (I do half to half), pitch one tea bag per quart, and let it sit in the sun all day, then bring it inside and stick it in the fridge until the weekend.
Serve it on a chilled glass with ice and a lemon wedge, and you have a mighty fine beverage for the hot summer days. I'm stockpiling a bunch of neutral just for this purpose, the ladies love it!
