I am running my flute as we speak 5 windows and six plates with the top section of a 2" two piece reflux tower( MH) so far looks good 7 lts all above 90%. This from a keg ,11 gal sugar wash ,love this flute , has I have said before you can make it into any thing you want.

Wait till you see my tri drive manifold ,I will run two heads off of one flute, this is my own design or I can run one flute off of two kegs , I found that one one keg is not enough to drive a 4" flute, so I will use two kegs, as you know a keg has a 2" neck so 2x2 makes 4 just like the flute, that should make it work.

Schoolboy, are you making your adjustments to the reflux ratio very slowly and allowing time for it to stabilise before furthur adjusting?

If not, you can chase your tail all night long trying to find the sweet spot and still might not catch it.
You design it, I make it. Copper and Stainless. Down under. PM me.

Hi folks,
@Big Bert, i think your calcs are wrong for your twin keg arrangement, I think you would be better getting a bigger keg and fitting it with a 4" ferrule.
My reasoning is that the surface area of your flute is measured as 3.14 x r squared, sorry, i dont have scientific calculator keys. Anyway 2" outlet= 3.14 x 2squared=3.14 x 2x2=
12.56 4" flute is 3.14 x 4x4= 50.24, i think you have confused yourself with circumference and surface area. HTH.
Cheers

Hi Stainless thanks for input, the area of a 2" pipe is 3.14 and a 4" would be 12.56 but the percent diff is the same. But to my way of thinking and I have had two much scotch ( no pun intended ) that we are dealing with steam which can be condensed with pressure or expanded with less,I am not really sure I know what the hell I am taking about but if I can get one 2" pipe to run the flute, two of them has to make it twice as good, but then again some say I have been living on this island a little to long. If you turn my manifold up side down you can run two 2" heads off one flute. If I can make this work I will put a 13 window 14 or 15 plate flute together with twin gin baskets, dum and not practical and it may not work but dam man it will look good and to stay in form 80 % of the part are from MH.

PS it will be driven by a 26 gal can

I run my coolent into the shoty and that goes into the base of the deflag. I think the warmer water from the shoty helps with faster adjustments when I start to collect, warmer water with take less time to heat than straight cold from your coolent reservoir. I used to use a 1/2" gate valve but changed it to a 1/4" and its heaps better. Like empty said, take your time and wait for it to start collecting, I marked my valve handle at the sweet spot so I can get a ruff idea of what I'm doing. A flow meter would be good too.

I note that you have a cooling problem, are you sure it's not a heating problem, I have found that the lower I run the heat and stay in the limits the less cooling problems , some I note want to run them fast, I run slow and after the start I may make one or two adjustments and it will run like that for 4hrs, be slow we are making shine not rocket fuel.I draw out two lts an hour, now this flute has done 4lt an hour but its a lot of work, and if I had better things do I wouldn't be doing this no matter what the wife says. So run slow and enjoy

Has anyone tried to insulate their column? If so, what did you use? I currently have the MH flute with 8" extension packed with copper and 5 plates. My boiler is a beer keg heated by propane. Any advise for distilling a George Washington grain bill. Thanks,

Would someone post the hose diagram for cooling please or a clear photo?
I just got my 4 window flute I have the basics but not quite sure of the hosing...first time distiller. I contacted Mile hi but they don't provide one (diagram) though they have invited me to call them.
I figure I can try the settings but watching some more videos and playing with it should help although if anyone has a write up then much appreciated for the link. Yet to see a video that really shows all the hosing from where to where.

Great forum! Thanks for the help. :D

Boomerang, please go to the welcome center and introduce yourself to the forum. In the new distillers reading lounge there are suggested topics to discuss during intro.
I personally don't use that still but someone should come along shortly to help.
Thanks and welcome in advance to the forum.

Boomerang if you get two garden hose Ys and hook up your water supply to one, then hookup the two hoses off the Y to the bottom inlet of your deflag and pc , the other one one will be used for the water return off the top of both units. Don't forget to use a ball valve on bottom of both units to control the flow. It works for me.

Six windows , 8 plates, six inches of cooper, the pic is the third lt. the first two ran at 95% then it settled in at 94% for the next nine litres ,then two at 90 and three tails for the next run.

Nice! Can you add as many plates as you want?

How are you cooling? Can it just be cooled from a garden hose?

I'm thinking about getting the 26g 4 window flute, But want to be able to do 90% and up avb.
