Good thing you changed your mind and decided to follow the law's of the land whether you agree with them or not. I'm glad I changed my mind in regards to buying one or building one. I will continue to read and learn all I can about distilling just in case the law's change.
Regardless of the veracity of the OP, I offer that the post above represents the most pressing issue facing home distilling in the USA. I sincerely hope this is a matter of a lack of information, and well-intentioned compliance - nonetheless it impedes freedom. drinkingdog is willing to hold fellow citizens to the "law of the land" and look the other way when his government ignores the Supreme Law of the Land. The 21st amendment completely removed the power of both state and local government to regulate the "manufacture, transportation and sale" of alcohol as a beverage - read it. The lawbreaker in this case is the government. Before anyone goes down the "taxation" rabbit hole, the Supreme Court held in 1933 that the government cannot tax anything that it does not have the power to control. Blind submission to government power is the only obstacle to home distilling in the USA. Waiting and hoping for the government to comply with the Constitution is not a good answer.

As I have said before I do not advocate any form of violence, and I will gladly answer/discuss any question posed. This issue is no different than the city of Montgomery telling Rosa Parks to sit in the back of the bus - that bus-transit officer was just "following the law of the land", too. I am glad she did not just decide to walk until the law changes. My heartfelt condolences to those in other countries without even a hope of guaranteed freedom. I shall exercise it, lest I lose it.

To get back on topic, I think Bobtail's extremely close proximity to a TTB field office may be significant when there are only a handful of field offices in the entire USA. It's not like the TTB made a seven hour trip one way just do confiscate a flute & boiler. He was right around the corner and I'll bet the other fellow wasn't far either. Until the TTB shows up in the middle of Kansas to confiscate a hobby scale still I don't think we have big problems.

i would still have to believe that a call was made by someone. That would be the reason "the list" was accessed in the first place. hadly believe they would waste all that energy with 5 officers to go investigate someone without due cause.

This should serve as fair warning to anyone thinking about purchasing a still from a commercial distributor/manufacturer... Leaving a trail or bread crumbs right to your door, thinking that nobody will ever follow the trail, apparently can come back and bit you in the ass - or at least increase your butt-pucker strength...

Let's look at this from an alternate perspective... Here we have common folk forking out excessive amounts of money for big shiny rigs capable of producing a lot of what is still considered illegal spirits in a very short period of time... That's gonna raise some eyebrows because every time I start hearing someone talking about larger boilers mine go right up and the excuse that someone might only do one or two runs a year just doesn't float well... You don't spend that kind of money on something you only intend to run once or twice a year... I've been waiting for this whole push beyond "hobby scale" to cause problems and obviously the ATF/TTB is just as aware and concerned as I have been... People might get all pissy with my constant rants about hobby scale and now they know why I am so adamant about the subject...

It is very unfortunate that members are popping up on the radar and being investigated, but everyone knew this could happen... And don't for a minute think the ATF/TTB isn't reading this topic as well as everything else posted in these forums... All that said, let's keep our heads screwed on straight with regards to what is said here...

My humble opinion:

Really don't see the issue over boiler size when MANY members here have posted about them having washes/mashes going on at the same time in multiple 30 gallon and even 55 gallon batches.

That's a LOT of booze after distillation and diluting to drinking strength. Sorta takes it beyond the realm of hobby scale don'tcha think ?

FMH.
