Iodine test

I have been looking for the instructions on how to preform this test, I am sure this is a newby question but I can't seam to find the topic

just add a few drops of iodine turns dark if starch is present.

this is no starch present
(throw out test sample , iodine will kill yeast )

I thought it had to be done on a porceline plate?

Can one obtain the iodine from the local pharmacy? I checked that stuff and it's a tincture, mixed with 50% alcohol and ammonia! The stuff smells like bathroom cleaner? Is this the right stuff? With ammonia in it? Or is there a purer form?

I used a glass so it could bee seen ,, you don't need that much. a spoon,plate what ever you want.
iodine is hard to git as it is used in manufacturing drugs?? but you can git stuff that works
benodine,povidone, mite be others? you mite git iodine if you ask, but then they mite ask you some questions.
