Has anyone ever built a refractometer?

They sound pretty simple, in theory. A search of the web found that lots of people in 1st year physics labs make them - but had no instructions available.

I think it would be a pretty fun/useful project... so has anyone ever seen instructions on how to make one of the things?

The thing about physics labs is that it's a simple application of a simple principle that doesn't really work in the "real" world. Thank God they never made me make a refractometer! If you want to explore the world of optics, I've seen some good stuff on "homemade telescope" sites--they're kind of obsessive about testing. One site used to be called "ATM" (amateur telescope making), but I don't find it now, perhaps a new name?

Didn't do anything as adventurous as a refractometer when I was in college....where were these students from....MIT?
