Essencia Reflux

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

Essencia Reflux

Post by belandaaron »

Hi all,

I know what everyone thinks of them
BUT...

I have an essencia reflux..... To be honest, I really like it and it has served the purpose of making neutral spirit very well.

My question is: If I want to try and add some flavour to my wash, can I do it? I know a pot still will do the trick but if I made a molasses wash, would it still retain some of the flavours even if put through a reflux?

Is there a mod i can do (take out the scrubbers or something) that would let me do this?

I'd make a pot still if i had the know how and the funds but this is what I have to work with... Any pointers? :)

I've written a how to on your specific still here: http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 17&t=11265

the short answer is if you rip out the packing, and swap the water tubes so that the condenser is working but the reflux jacket is disconnected, you have a pot still. it isn't ideal though, because you cannot vary your power input without a controller of sorts.

by the by, rum flavours carry over quite nicely in those stills even in 'reflux mode', just use a heavy molasses (like pugirum) wash and you'll end up with a nice medium rum. rum is probably the easiest thing to get right in those stills after neutrals, its more forgiving IMHO
