Pot still "parts" question

OK.. I have a 34quart ss pot with a flat lid. I am going to have a 1 inch column coming up a foot or so and reduce down to the Lyme arm yada yada yada..... I'm' cool on the copper, lead free solder, coil condenser............. My problem is the connection to the flat (1/16 to 1/8 inch thick) top on the pot! I have looked everywhere in my area for something to make a good connection with but have come up with nada! My final idea is to heat the end of the 1in. copper tube and try to make a flange that I can bolt on. Oh... by the way. Im a newbi..duh..and thanks for all the help you can give. I'll need it. I am shooting for a pretty simple pot still to make old style corn likker! Like uncle Jessie's recipe. Any ideas?
