Double Distilling

Post by prospector »

I read through the parent site, but what I want to do isn't covered, I also did a search here and couldn't find the answer.

I have a pot still with a bit of copper mesh in the column.. like this one:

I usually do sugar washes and get around 86% ABV, which when cut down and with distilled water to 40% produces some very drinkable clear liquor. This is my second season at distilling and Id like to try double distilling. My question is.. I usually take 120 ozs of distillate from each batch. If I'm going to run it through again, should I add some water to it - or just put the 86% stuff back through the still??

By The way this forum was an amazing help to me when I started.
