I was looking for this now 2 hours without clear detail...
I think 1/4 copper tube is ok, but how much should I need? I calculated about 10 ft for a 12" coil, but Im not shure...

The rough calculation is 1 foot of 1/4 inch copper per linear inch of double helix condenser coil... Therefore a single coil will be roughly half that... When in doubt, buy more than you think you'll need... You can always cut is shorter but you can't cut it longer...

My coil is 12" and each coil is about 1/8" apart, it is a single coil with a cold finger and works great.

A single wound condenser coil may need to be a bit longer, perhaps 30% - 50% longer than a double wound, with or without cold finger... Longer than needed won't hurt unless you have height constraints...

what about adding a coil to the outside of the condenser/jacket
i'm thinking with a single or double coil & condenser/jacket on the outside you should be able to knock down all the incoming vapor with out any problem what so ever

May help some but not near as effective as having the alcohol vapors in direct contact with the coil..

Yeah, won't hurt, but I'd stick to just doing a good coil inside the column.
