Can someone please point me in the right direction to find
a recipe to make rum from mollases, thankyou.

Someone here is bound to direct you to homedistiller.org, but here is what I do:

2.5 kg white sugar
2.5 kg mollasses
20 l water
ferment
distill
age on oak
add some carmelized sugar and spices to taste

l am in Australia, and a few people here do make rum from
mollases, l can't get anyone on the phone or by email, so
l thought l'd ask here, apparently it's quite popular and so
l thought l'd have a go,
When you say,
distill--
as in cook off and collect the liquid?
as l do now when l do a normal sugar wash..for spirits...

I'm concerned by your reply, swampyro. Do you currently distill? Sounds like you do. But then you ask what is meant by distilling. Distilling rum (especially a heavy rum) can be more complex, i.e. more cuts, than some other things. Light rums are easier. Depends on what you're after. Search this forum, read the parent site, check the yahoo boards, and see what appeals to you. Good Luck!

I'm keen to make rum. I can get molases off horse trainers here for free.

l am in Eromanga south west queensland,
l'd love some Molasses, but the freight would
kill me, we get most of our stuff through Q Link,
Rail services, l think the last 30 litre Port l had sent,
from Kingaroy cost $40.00.
My folks are up at Terranora, but l never get there.

Back to the Rum..

l left the idea of the molasses rum for a while,
as l couldn't get any cheap enough, strange though--
where we are, a neighbouring property gave me 5 litres
to put in our septic tank to bring back the 'culture'
(can't think of the proper name) to the pit,
it had lost the germ, so to speak, and molasses was the
best thing they say, apart from a dead cat!!

l ran into an old mate, who lives near Dalby,
he says he makes molasses rum,
l am going to ring him in about a fortnight to get his
recipe, if you are interested l can pass it on,
l am working in the Santos Oil Fields at present,
and am away from home for about another 2 weeks.

If you can get the stuff for free, maybe l wil look into
freight charges,, what do you think?

I'll swap you a dead cat for 5L of molasses.

I wonder can you make rum from a dead cat? - I'll bet those early convicts tried.
