Oak: charring question

Could I soak some oak in sticks/chunks,etc in some high abv distillate light 'em of and let them char a little? Anyone tried this or am I jousting with windmills?

Interesting question for which I have no answer, but I wonder if etho would burn hot enough to char? Try it and tell us.

Doubt it will burn hot and long enough to do the job. But that is just my theory.

also, it would be the ethanol burning, not the wood, right?
