would using a rubbermaid container cause problems as far as contamination. homebrewing for dummies says white hdpe only.

the plastic may be food quality, but the colurs may not be. worked a summer job at a plastics factory, and discovered that the element for colouring plastics can contain lead. the line i worked did green for "Lego" and plastic garbage bags was told by my supervisor that lead was used. The only section of the plant where a fume breather was not necessary was the 'white' line, despite titanium dioxide as an additive.

This bit is of particular importance to us:
There is a common misconception that all containers made of white plastic or HDPE plastic bearing the [HDPE resin code number - see below] are food grade containers. This is not true.

Make sure you get food grade HDPE.
