New Coil question ??

I wound a coil today with the intent of it being a double-wound, 3/8" (ID) 10 inches long with a 3/4" cold-finger. Without getting into the details of the miriad of reasons that reality and fantasy did not actually meet :x  , I ended up with a single-wound 3/8" 12 inches long that is about 2-2.5 inches across. If I run a 1" cold finger through this coil will I have adequate cooling on a 3" bokabob slant plate??

thanks

With the aid of the coldfinger, and the extra length, I think you'll be fine... Worst case scenario, you may need to use some copper or SS scrubber as packing to aid in thermal transfer...

Thanks Rad. Will add the scrubbers for additional transfer.

I want to add a bit to this. In winding the coil this morning, my wife pitched in by turning the "coil jig" as I wrestled the unyielding beast into a servicable coil. This was a breakthrough for me in that I had successfully gone from certifiably nuts to "hey, this is pretty fun". She actually wanted to do another coil with the leftover tubing we had. Also, this was accomplished on the dining table with the stretched out copper through the kitchen and into the laundry room. Seeing how I do not have an outdoor shop it is imperative that she buy in during inclement weather. I was feeling quite smug at the end of the day.

thanks for all of the info

She allowed you to wind the coil in the house, with copper tube running through the rooms, AND helped....

Keep her, she's a good one. :D

My wife tolerates the kitchen mess making up washes so long as the mess is gone when she gets up in the morning. She will tolerate occasional carboys fermenting in the house but I doubt she'd pitch in and wind a coil on the kitchen table. LOL

Forget the coil topic WW, I want to know how you got your old lady to go along with this! This could be a breakthrough in the world for all hobby stillers....with wimen anyway. Mine tolorates it, in the garage. and she has learned to deal with the occasional missing utensil from the kitchen from time to time, some things never making it back to there rightful location. but to do all that and have her help.....IN THE HOUSE? Fantastic work my man, just fantastic. Cheers.
